Running for oldies

I am new to this site, and have never posted on any site before!! My husband and I have just completed week 5 of C2 5k. We never thought we would be able to run for 20 mins, certainly not when week one was running for one minute and it was so difficult. We are well into our 60s and a little voice is telling me to be careful...... I so wish we had done this 20 years ago. What a great programme, it has got us running, although very slowly and we are looking forward to completing it if we can.

Welcome to the best running programme and most helpful running forum out there! Follow the programme, keep it slow and steady, take the necessary rest days between run and I have no doubt you'll complete it. We have many runners that have started running later in life and have gone on to not only finish the programme but continue on to run further distances. Keep posting, keep running, and enjoy the journey.

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

The guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

We had an 83 year old graduate last year so I think you can drop the "oldies" bit. Age is a number, as C25K so often proves.

Enjoy your journey.

Hi Dsk1953, Looks like you may be 4 years my senior from your name. I'm 61, name is a giveaway! Well done to you both! 20 minutes without stopping, superb!😀I am just a little ahead having completed week 6. I also only made my first ever post on a forum during week 5. What a really helpful, supportive, encouraging and informative forum it is. Happy running to you both! Really good that you are able to complete the runs together.

Thank you, yes in theory we are doing it together but I am much slower .....in fact I could walk faster than I can run!!! I don't worry about my pace, just the fact that I need to finish. We do the recovery 5mins walk together after he comes back to find me😊😊. Congratulations on completing week 6.

Really glad you are enjoying your running and how lovely to have a running partner! My hubby is also doing this programme but with a young child there’s a lot of “negotiation” regarding who can run when!! Have a lovely weekend. 👍👍👍

Thank you.....yes that does seem difficult, but hopefully you will both be able to complete the programme.

Great stuff! Me and my wife did c25k 2-3 years ago. C25K will most certainly put a Spring in your step! Apt really due to time of year😁

What does oldies actually mean? Age is just a number, as long as your healthy! As for being slow, slow is better while covering c25k, let your pace come on naturally at a pace that your comfortable with..😊
