Treadmill Running

Just wonder if any of you lovely people can advise about the transition from treadmill to pavement.

I’m about to start week 6 and cannot resist the beautiful weather any longer, but am a bit fearful of ruining what has been a great 2nd time around for C25K after a couple of year break. I’m thinking of my old joints you see 😬

I don’t have any advice, but you can do it! I’m a treadmill runner, but occasionally venture outside when I know I can’t make it to the gym. I go really slowly, and actually quite enjoy making it to the next tree or lamppost! Good luck, and enjoy the great outdoors x

I agree and I like the idea about the lamppost. Something to aim for. 😂 We sound like dogs 😂

I do a bit of both.

On the treadmill I find it easier on the legs and because I can't run in my glasses (varifocals as I get dizzy), it's safer as I am so clumsy and do trip but I get more bored.

Outside I find a bit harder but then there is so much more to look at and to distract me which is a good thing and obviously things to avoid when jogging like potholes etc etc! :P

Try it, it's a nice day! :)

Great - I like the distraction ploy!

I am on week 3, just done run 1 of that

Sound silly but although I struggle with me shins and calves it’s easier running bit longer ? Time went quicker and I enjoyed it

I too am running on my treadmill

Wondering when best time is to start to go outside?

Feel silly if that makes sense ?

Can I ask how you spread your runs out please? Thanks

I run every other day but when I have a glass of wine at the weekend I leave it an extra day. I know what you mean about the reluctance to venture out but you’ll be surprised at how many others are doing the same - all shapes, sizes and ages

Running on grass and running slowly keeps impact minimal, as explained in the guide to the plan healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Thanks I’ll look further into this. Makes sense, I suppose although there may be other little (or big) things to dodge on grass so think I’ll try SLOW

Do you have arthritis in your joints then? Running doesn't cause arthritis but can make it worse if you already have it..

No, I don’t, but my experience a couple of years back with knee and ankle injury kept me out of action until recovered. Up to now running on the treadmill I’ve had no issues. It was only my assumption that outside running was the reason. I love the programme so much and when I had to stop due to injury I was gutted.
