Running at night.

Hello! Does anyone else run at night? Was discussing with a colleague my C25K activity ( I’m on W2R2 ) and mentioned I run at night and they said I shouldn’t exercise before going to bed. I’ve looked online and there’s conflicting advice so if anyone can shed any light on the subject that’d be great 👍🏼 Thanks in advance!

I'm completely new to this so don't take any advice from me, however I have a treadmill and I walk on it every evening, and have done my week 1 runs in the evening as well, then had a shower, glass of water, and a great night's sleep.... ;-)

Thank you! It’s definitely helping me sleep better. Kat

I prefer morning runs, but everyone’s different- in my opinion exercise before bed is better than no exercise at all!!!

Absolutely!

I will only have time in the evening, so it will have to do. Did my W1R2 last night and the best sleep for ages 😄

Whatever time suits you will help you stick to the programme. So if evening works for you then do it. Personally my best runs are in the early morning but that is what works for me. I think the main thing is to give yourself some wind down time before bed which is the same for all of us. Does your name refer to night owl?😀

in reply to AnnieW55

Thanks.. I do enjoy the late night runs but give myself an hour to relax. Definitely sleep better I’m out for 10:30.. no night owl here ☺️

I’m an evening runner. No way I can face getting up and running before work! Mostly I’ve been going out for my run around 7-8.30pm, but in previous summers I’ve been known to have dinner, leave it two hours, then head out around 9.30pm or perhaps even later. Definitely doesn’t stop me sleeping!

Thanks.. I’m heading out around 9:00 and after a shower I’m asleep for 10:30.. out like a light!

Thanks.. yeah I can’t imagine running before work! I may try some yoga though..thanks again.

I enjoy running in the morning but often have to run in the late evening to fit around work. I don't really notice any difference physically and actually enjoy a run after work as it's a real stress reliever for me. My advice would be do what feels ok to you.

Thank you 😊

I do evening / night runs. I don’t do mornings because I am so stiff , and I would worry about getting an injury. I practise yoga in the morning. Do whatever suits you best.

Thank you ☺️

I love a run in the fresh new morning. I feel alive for the rest of the day then. At the end of the day my energy has begun to drain so it would be a bit of a struggle I guess. Saying that I’ve been swimming after work.

Your username suggests night runs.

I run at night sometimes due to work commitments. The streets/pavements in our town are all lit at night.

in reply to dubnde

It wasn’t intentional ☺️ I much prefer running at night I must admit.

If running at night means you run, that's amazing!! If I leave it until after dinner I've had all day to come up with excuses as to why I can't/shouldn't and don't end up going... so for me it has to be before dinner, the earlier the better. Things like this make people feel like "why try?" because they aren't doing it in this silly ideal manner that someone came up with, that likely only matters to an elite athlete or someone with a sleep issue.

I saw a post on facebook the other day about *when* you should drink your water throughout the day, lol! Like, if you're drinking it, good for you! Who cares when you do it! We are all different. You do you!

in reply to Amandana

Thank you! 😊

If it’s any good to you I run at 1:30am on my lunch break as I work nights 😊

I often run late at night - sometimes at 2am if I've been out and come home late and need to fit in a run. It has to be a couple of hours after eating, but I find it stops me being greedy when I'm out, if I know I will run later. And no alcohol obvs! But I can't go to bed straight away, so it only works if I don't have an early start in the morning...but as everyone says, run when it suits YOU

in reply to Ajay99

Thanks.. I find it helps me watch what I’m eating too!
