Running & Shiftwork

Still plugging away and doing wk3 run 2 this evening. Is there anyone else that has to have gaps due to shift work? Last run was 4 nights ago as I finish at midnight and don't get home until 1 I don't think I should run this late at night due to safety reasons. When I'm on a full nights shift I'll go to the works gym and run on the treadmill instead in my refs time. Am I mad ?

No, not at all. I think we do have shift workers on here. We also have folks that run during the night, so no you're not mad. You run when you can, and if you can't get out on the road you run on the treadmill. As long as you get the runs in it doesn't matter.

Running in the evening, or early morning, when the streets are less crowded has a lot going for it

Keep up the good work!!!!

Yes I'm a night shift worker and it's so frustrating. This is my 3rd attempt now but I won't give up this time. I work 3 nights a week and they can be any nights and usually split so I may have 1,2 or 3 nights off between shifts. I'm so exhausted all the time but I want to do this.

I suppose you just have to fit it in whenever you can, it'll just take longer but as long as we get there in the end!

Good luck x

Yes it might take longer but that doesn't matter in the scheme of things. Just finishing each run should be the priority. Just always try and run. Prioritise it!

Hi blondie 64 I also work shifts and decided to run in the mornings if I was working nights....I would start work at 7.00 pm and finish at 7.00am I made sure that I packed my running gear and on the way home I would do the runs / walk....I did notice that It made no difference to me if the hours were reversed.....only more people staring and getting in the way..... give it a try,

:-) ;-D

I mainly do day shifts 7-7.30pm and am amazed that I have managed to do a few runs after these days. If someone had told me a few weeks ago I would never have believed it. I have found that when planning to do this I look after myself better at work and make sure I eat well and am well hydrated, which can only be a good thing. Also feels great to get some fresh air after being inside all day :)
