Sorry I just had to do this. This grandma just bought herself new shoes. Rewarded myself getting to end of week 3. My goodness how on earth have I done the first 3 weeks in 10 year old Velcro things!

Oooh great colour. 😀

First pair of running shoes feels a bit like having instant professional feet!😀

- I know it’s silly but there is something about putting on my running shoes that makes me feel like a more athletic snail! 😂

Ha yeah when I put mine on I really start to day dream that I am in fact an elite athlete. Sadly after a few minutes of jogging reality dawns! :O :O

Thank you I am so very excited to give them a whirl. I’ve started to get some ankle niggles so I’m hoping this will help

Oooo nice 👍 I treated myself to a pair of asics ready to start running Wk3...wow, what a difference it made 😊

Enjoy running in your new trainers 🏃🏼‍♀️

I was dreading going into our local independent sport shop asking for running shoes, still concerned people may judge me. However a wonderful lady the same age as me ..who runs sorted me out. It actually was a rewarding experience and I could already understand the running language😀

Melo_smiles profile image

A young guy served me in my local sports shop and I was so pleased that he was incredibly helpful. Like you mentioned, I thought he wouldn’t take me seriously 😐 but instead he took time to find out about my running, did a gait analysis (slightly embarrassed doing squats in front of the poor lad 😳) but I came away with a really comfortable pair of running shoes.

Any friends that have since mentioned getting some new running shoes I’ve pointed them in the direction of the shop I went to!

Oooo they are lush! 👍 can’t believe how excited I get looking at new running shoes now! 😂 I got my first ‘proper’ pair around week 5 and they are heaven to run in, they made such a difference it was amazing! Enjoy 😊 x

I’ve just returned from my last run of week 3 and they just felt wonderful! So much so I’m phoning the lovely helpful lady, Linda who served me in the shop to say thank you 😊

Great suggestion JoJo! She definitely needs to drop the old lady handle.

How are things going with you on the IC? Did you manage the return to work OK - I know you were worried as it sounds like the job is pretty physical. Hopefully you'll mend quickly. xx 🤞👍😀

GoGo_JoJo profile image
GoGo_JoJoGraduate in reply to JoP61

I can't lie. It's tough. 😑 I can only manage a few days a week, not back to normal. Doing Mon/Thurs/Sun this week and Tues/Fri next. Hoping back to normal after that. I'm doing the "hurt foot" workouts I found 3 or 4 times a week still trying to stay fit, gonna get me some great abs! 😂😂 trying to stay positive but falling into the pity pit occasionally 👎 I've got both halfway point and 6 week dates in my calender. I've got an extra long massage session next Weds as compensating is really hurting. Trying hard not to limp to stop that taking such a toll. But I'm still here, can't wait to get back out there 😁🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🤗

JoP61 profile image
JoP61Graduate in reply to GoGo_JoJo

Urggh. Sounds tough. I have glum days even when there doesn't seem like any reason, so I can imagine that it must be so hard not to get depressed when the injury is affecting your working and running life. It must seem like forever whilst you're on the IC, but hopefully you'll be back out there in the not too distant future. Hope you're getting support from friends and family. Keep posting. xx 🤞🤞

GoGo_JoJo profile image
GoGo_JoJoGraduate in reply to JoP61

My friends are looking out for me and my fella is super proud of the fact I'm not just sitting feeling sorry for myself. He didn't want me to go back to work either but I'm sure he'll be telling his workmates how I'm "hard core" 😂🤣

I'll bounce back better than ever. My neighbour was telling me how her calf muscle once detached from the bone!😲 she couldn't even put weight on her leg for 3+ months... kinda makes my little 6wks pale 🤣

JoP61 profile image
JoP61Graduate in reply to GoGo_JoJo

Great that you're getting support. 6 weeks is still tough, but you're a tough person by the sound of it. You're going to be superwoman after this! xx 💪💪💪

GoGo_JoJo profile image

Jullaly profile image
JullalyGraduate in reply to JoP61

sorry ladies chat here .. apparently its a velcro strap that goes over a sportsbra to make sure your double Ds are held snuggly in place!

Jullaly profile image
JullalyGraduate in reply to Jullaly

the lady in the shop uses one and she said its been brilliant for her but tbh I haven't noticed a problem as yet in that department

JoP61 profile image
JoP61Graduate in reply to Jullaly

Me neither - mind you, my sports bra is more like a harness than a bra, so I don't need any more support!! x

GoGo_JoJo profile image
GoGo_JoJoGraduate in reply to JoP61

🤣😂🤣😂🤣 it's true, a good sports bra holds you upright!! 🤣😂🤣😂🤣

Jullaly profile image
JullalyGraduate in reply to JoP61

I think I need a crane never mind a harness 😂 😂 😝

I worry that one boob bigger than the other might be causing overpronation 😉

DebJogsOn profile image
DebJogsOnGraduate in reply to Jullaly

Well done you. Week 4 to 6 is amazing - you're goingvto love them!

I love my asics. Did you have a gait analysis? I was really worried about venturing into a running shop and waited til I'd graduated which was really daft as since getting decent shoes my knee and hip niggles have cleared up completely!

Jullaly profile image
JullalyGraduate in reply to DebJogsOn

I know I should have had a gait analysis done but I was desperate for a decent pair of running shoes. To have that done it would have been a 100mile round trip so I went to a little independent sport shop closer to home. They couldn’t have been more helpful. I felt like I was going to the dentist before hand 😂 as I thought they would not take me seriously. I could not have been more wrong, the lady who served me was a similar age to me and a runner. She sorted me out with the asics after trying 100s of pairs and I am so happy with them

Beautiful! Mine are raspberry red! 👍👍👍

Jullaly profile image
JullalyGraduate in reply to 18Windmill

How lovely ..red , I love red, I think colour is actually important but obviously fit etc is most important but I know I wouldn’t run so well in a colour I didn’t like ..me and my shoes have got to get on 😂

18WindmillGraduate in reply to Jullaly

Colour all the way!! Happy weekend.

So gorgeous. Mine arrived by post today but they were a teensy bit too small so I had to send them back for a half size bigger. Hopefully next week 😁 they’re not as pretty as yours though 😉

Jullaly profile image
JullalyGraduate in reply to

Well don’t forget to post your pic, we have to see them it seems to be the law around here 😂 hope the size is better next time, the lady in the shop says it’s better if they are at least half a size bigger than normal

in reply to Jullaly

Yep. I tried half a size bigger and now have gone for a full size bigger. If these are too small, I’ll be running in wellies

Jullaly profile image
JullalyGraduate in reply to

I have a lovely collection of wellies here on the farm, I have been known to run in them but usually end up on my backside in the mud!

Super snazzy! You'll go far in those 😊

The difference between my off the shelf trainers and "proper" running shoes was unbelieveable to me as a newbie. Well worth the investment to solve the niggling aches and pains.
