Week 8 day 2 please help!

So I completed this yesterday. I have been running pretty much every other day, not had to complete any runs and all in all it’s gone quite well. However, I am just hating it! I love the idea, I love the feeling afterwards but I spend the whole time thinking I won’t be able to do it, should I give up etc. Did anyone else feel like this?

Thanks

I have only just started and felt as though it was really tough. I hope that as much as the runs will get harder they will become more rewarding. You have come so far and have achieved so much . Don’t give up!! You obviously can do it look at where you are at. Keep 🏃‍♀️

Lots of people have negative thoughts the trick is to use positive ones.

Let your mind wander, write stuff in your head, look around if you have nice views, listen to a podcast, audio book, good play list - maybe try the zombie runs. Basically something to distract the negative thoughts.

There will be times when nothing distracts the negativity but I think they should be the exception not the rule. Hope you find something that works.

Nice way to divert the mind. I do this too on long runs! It works!!!

Looking at your previous posts asenior85, it looks like you were enjoying building up your running. Maybe you could take extra rest days between run days now the runs are longer, many of us did that...

You are measuring your distance, so maybe feeling that you are standing still a bit, while in fact you are building stamina run by run and getting stronger....not many runs to go until you are Graduating, and of course you can do it!

Nice slow steady runs all the way to the podium..we are ready to cheer you on!😊xx

Every run is as hard or as easy as you want to make it.

This is the same for every runner, regardless of experience.

Go slowly at a conversational pace, as described in the guide to the plan healthunlocked.com/couchto5... and it will be easy and enjoyable.........push hard and it becomes a thankless slog........it is your choice.

Oh, yes. For ages I loved the idea of running and I loved having run, but didn't like the actual running. I didn't like being sweaty and red-faced. I didn't like feeling fat and blobby and out of breath. I hated the struggle of getting into and out of my sports bra (christened the ForthBridgeBra for its engineering qualities) and I hated the way I looked in Lycra. I hated the toxic 10, which actually for me was the first 15 minutes of any run.

I've been on the IC for 4 weeks. I hate it. I am desperate to run again. I'm going for a short run tomorrow, because it will be my 6th runniversary. It's a little earlier than I've been advised I should run, but dammit, I'm going anyway, because I miss it so much.

I love running. I still get sweaty, and beetroot-faced, and out of breath (a bit). I'm still slow. I'm still fat and don't look good in lycra. The toxic 10 doesn't happen any more, and I think this is because I have taken the pressure off. You mention the doubts - these will go, because you can do it. Of course you can. It's just one foot in front of the other. You will get fitter, and your running style will settle into what works for you, and then you'll run easily. But you do have to stick at it to get there. Take it easily though, and enjoy the journey. Sorry for the wittering - I hope you can get back out there and have a great next run.

Sorry you’re not enjoying your runs. It can be very variable and I have times when it just seems like a massive chore and I want to find anything to do instead. Here are some of the things I try to ensure I enjoy my running:

• put together different playlists -I get bored of having the same music, so have about 8 different playlists so that I can vary what I listen to each run. (I'm currently working on a 1960s playlist with help form other runners in the forum.)

*plan different routes - I have a very low boredom threshold, so I have three or four different routes from my house, one from a friend's house, and if those don't do it for me I will drive a short distance to run somewhere else, just to ring the changes

* I make up different lyrics to a song - when a run is going tough I'll sometimes find that one of the tracks on my playlist can be tweaked to include the difficult bits of the run, and then concentrating on making up the lyrics - I get distracted from feeling meh. Have a look at some of my previous posts (usually with the 🎵 in the title) for some examples.

* Identify my gremlins and think about how I'm going to share them in my post in the forum.

*Identify the lovely things in the surroundings (birds, sunshine, kind people, puddles to jump in etc) and talk through in my head with these virtual running buddies, thinking about how I'm going to tell you guys about my run).

•Get a new piece of running kit and enjoy it (I reckon I have to do at least 1km for each additional £ spent.

*Congratulate myself that I'm actually running, not slowing on a couch or lying in in bed.

*Stop worrying about how far or fast I've gone and just enjoy the slow rhythm of being outside and running.

I hope you soon find what works for you. As you settle into the rhythm of the longer runs, hopefully you will get into the zone and begin to enjoy them.

Lots of the time, especially in the early part of any run, but then eventually I get settled in and then I begin to enjoy it. When I’m just slogging through I look up and around at birds and people, and I plan my runs ( I live at the bottom of a hill) so that my warm up is a walk up and the last bit is downhill ( faster, more fun). And if it’s too grim Intell myself I am holding off cognitive decline and acquiring a great core!! So hang in there, you really can do it, the app is brilliant and I think the runs get better and more fun as you progress. And Remember, you always feel brilliant afterwards!

I’m at the same stage and I do know what you mean, but you’ve ignored the voice in your head for the last 7 weeks so just carry on doing what you’re doing!

It’s not compulsory to go running but I would suggest you finish the program then see how you feel.

And reward yourself (I bought myself a running top which I’ve convinced myself makes the runs easier!)

Thanks everyone. Some great advice here! I’m joining a local group of ladies this evening who run for 50 mins currently. I know it’s longer than I’ve done but one turn back early. Hoping even if it only once or week, that the company will help and then I’ll do the other tuna myself :-)

The best part of all this is that you are aware of your feeling and its okay to hate something and love something.

I love lazing in bed, but it gives a bad feeling later on.

I hate springing out of bed, but it gives great feel throughout the day.

So who says you have to love everything you do?

I may have hated school, but I am glad my parents pushed me out of the home every morning.

Hate it or Love it - Just Do It!

You are doing great! Keep running!
