Lost my mojo

Need some motivation to get back into the couch to 5k..I find jogging really hard, I’d struggle running for a bus! I really want to be a runner though, I want to get fit and lose weight but I’ve lost all my motivation since the kids have been off school with the school hols! I seem to be able to find every excuse NOT to run 🙈

Okay the good thing is you’ve posted on here, which must mean this is important to you, otherwise it’s easier to keep schtum.

Have you ever ran before - check out the FAQ Posts to the right to see what the plan involves. It’s fairly straightforward, but the motivation probably has to come from within you. I’m guessing you have which is a help, as you know what this involves.

Having said that, here are some ‘tips’ that I’ve seen on here from various of the best runners we have.

1. Start slow and if possible go slower, that way you can keep up momentum

2. make a date with your running, so that it is scheduled as part of your normal life, not something that you have to ‘fit in’

3. get your running kit ready and somewhere you trip over it (metaphorically not literally, we don’t want you injuring yourself!)

4. make sure you have the right footwear - this is critical for your running, the wrong footwear can damage you

5. post on here before you run - just as a ‘commitment’ and post afterwards so we know how you’re doing

6. perhaps buddy up with a virtual buddy on here, who is at the same stage as you - you can spur each other on.

7. Write a list of why this is important and any time you are thinking of wavering - look at the list and work out how not running is going help you achieve those aims

8. take a look at the W9 graduation posts

9. take note of the admins and the mentors - their experience is second to none, they are some of the best folk you can ever hope to meet virtually

10. Choose your coach carefully - some love the bouncy Sarah Millican others like me preferred Michael Johnson - but if you don’t like your first choice, just change - it can take time to find the person for you. Others swear by the original Laura podcast, others can’t do without Sanjeev and loads love Jo. It doesn’t matter which one you have provided they work for you.

11. Work out if you are a day or night person - personally if I don’t run in the morning it doesn’t happen, as I then faff and don’t go out, but for others it works the other way around

12. Never be afraid of asking for help on here.

Well done for coming back and asking for support. Hopefully others can help too.

Good luck with your comeback!

Brilliant fail safe list Jan. I feel like starting all over again just reading it! :)

I am the world’s best hypocrite and did about 3 or 4 of these, during my C25K. So I think I am with you and I should start again...

You just need to get out there and do it!! Set aside time, if you can, for a week or two in advance for when you are going to do it - and go at that time, no ifs or buts. Keep it slow. It can feel hard, but it will get easier and at a nicely addictive rate. Think of all the reasons why you want to start, be pig headed (always helps), take a deep breath and take the plunge. You won't regret it :)

Thankyou so much for your reply 😊 I’ve just made a promise to myself that I’m going to re start tomorrow, I did this to better my health and lose weight also to have a bit of me time, I need to stop making excuses and just get on with it! Thankyou very much for your motivational reply 😊

You just need to get stuck in and get started :) There is no race, just go at your own pace that's manageable for you and you will be mightily pleased with how quickly you advance. Good luck!

Thankyou 😊 yes I definitely need to just go out and do it! No more excuses 💪🏻😊

in reply tojaime77

Okay - we make a deal - I have to run tomorrow - I have a longish run planned, if I go long, then you re-start! I will report back, if you do!

But I am a lot older than you, so please cut an old lady some slack!

Enjoy your run! I’m going to do mine later, but nervous today as I get the results of an MRI scan I had couple of weeks ago, once that’s out the way I’ll be putting my trainers 👟 on 😊

in reply tojaime77

Good luck for your results later on. Done mine just before the rain came. Good luck for later

Brilliant, well done you, you’re a star! Okay I am running tomorrow and Wednesday - it’s a long story and don’t follow my example - I’m doing a ‘run the year’ challenge, so need to haul my sorry arse out pretty much every day. So - synchronise runs on Wednesday....

:) that run was always there within you, you just need to dust off that mojo ...

in reply tojaime77

I did the same - I waited until I could get a clear run (pardon the pun) at it & then started. I've only just started but it's not my first time running. Maybe wait until the kids have gone back? Then you will be really motivated. I always find it easier when mine's at school - even though she's now a teenager I still like to be at home for her.

Pick up the shoes... the mo-jo is under them...just head out, steady, slow and relaxed...

you wanted to lose weight, you wanted to get fit...that has not changed.... :)

You can do this... we will be here to help...decide on a time... short route and one you know, then just run :) Keep us posted:)

Thankyou 😊 feeling more determined now 💪🏻

I know that feeling. Involve the kids too, see who can jog the furthest, who can jog the slowest. Just keep the momentum going and don’t worry about C25K it will still be there when the kids are back in school😁

I find it hard to get motivated so easy just to quit but so rewarding when u do it , I have c o p d so I run in the gym at the moment controlled so I can manage heart rate etc etc as previously said your posting so it means something to you to want it slow steps to start n build up the couch to 5k good just do what you can manage then progress

jaime77 profile image
jaime77 in reply toAndy_rhead

Thankyou 😊 I’m going to go for a run today, I really want to do it, it’s just that getting ready and getting out there that’s the hard bit 🙈

in reply tojaime77

You can do it Jaime, don’t think about it just get ready and go. If you think too much about it you may not want to go. Remember you are a remarkable woman so let’s make you an awesome one and become the runner you want to be😊
