Poor start :(

Jollywobblefluff profile image

I started today, it was pretty horrendous, I couldn’t do it... trying to remain positive, maybe need a week of fast walking with a 3 or 4 attempts at running, and then try run 1 again... I’m sooo unfit.

Hardest part over, you started 😉 well done you! That's the great thing about C25K you do it your own way in your own time. Keep at it you'll get there! 🎽🥇🏆

Check this post out... for great advice for Newbies...then, forget the word, fast.

Start the runs slowly and steadily and keep that up right through the programme... it is the way :)

Many folk felt just like you... so... start again and this time..think snail on a go slow... and then think tired snail on a go slow and you will be fine:)

Well done for beginning this... you are going to have fun:)

I started by walking. I was walking 40 minutes a day and picked up the pace over 3 weeks. After that I downloaded the app. I found it so difficult but then after advice on here I realised I was trying to run like a greyhound out of a trap! So slow it right down ..really very slow is the way to go

I assume you managed a few of the 60 seconds. If you did it 5 times, bet you can manage 7-8 next time. Just keep putting 1 foot infront of the other and go again Tues/Wed. Trust in yourself!

You have defiantly done the hard bit already!! I also started today and I found it really tricky but do carry on and stay strong I am sure it will pay off!! When I finished today I did feel amazing, I’m sure it will get easier- wishing you all the best💪🏽☺️😘

A poor start is a start, and starting is a really big deal, so I say it wasn't poor at all!! I'm really impressed with you getting out there and glad you're going to keep at it. If you need to walk for a bit to get into it, you do that. We're all here cheering for you. You've done so well already! I am looking forward to being on this journey with you. Let's do it!! (At our own paces and directing lots of kindness to ourselves) ❤️️☀️

Also, the post that oldfloss shared is so helpful! You may just have been pushing yourself to go too fast 🏃‍♀️

Oldfloss is right - forget speed, focus on slowness. Slow running is cool running, it builds you slowly. If you ae running slowly and t’s still a struggle well just try a gradual build to the 60 seconds. Seriously glacially slow is the way to go. Speed come later.

Good luck and blooming well done for getting out and having a bash.

Well done for having gotten out there! Just keep putting yourself out there, just showing up IS enough. I know it’s hard. I started today too and found it much harder than I was (oh so naively) anticipating. And just do what you can. No one can expect anything else. It is enough :)

Don’t be so hard on yourself- u were off the couch and out there doing something to improve your fitness. Just keep going and it will easier. maybe u are trying to run too fast? Hang in there ur doing great and just go nice and slow. Can’t wait to see ur post in a few weeks when u can’t believe what u have managed to achieve

Thank you for all your support! I’m going to have another go on Wednesday, and even if all I do is walk fast for 30 mins, it’s more than I have been doing. Even when I was much fitter than I am now I struggled with running, so I guess I should have realised it was going to be really hard, but I really want to prove that I can do it!

You can do it, honest. 😀

If you’ve struggled with running before then maybe speed is your issue?... if you hang around here on the forum you’ll here us all say how important it is to go slow... and that there’s no such thing as too slow... as long as two feet are off the ground then that’s running. 👍

Try W1R1 again, if it’s still not manageable, then commit to two weeks of brisk walking, say 20 mins, as fast as you can? And then try W1R1 again after that... and congratulations!... for getting off that couch! You can do this! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️
