Welcome to the forum.

If you read the guide to the plan healthunlocked.com/couchto5... it will answer many of your questions.

As for being an old age runner you'll have to do better than 65......... We had an 83 year old graduate last year.............

Keep us posted.

Hi - I had my (walking) gait analysed last year and now have orthotic insoles to correct it - which I wear most of the time. Should I wear these while running?

No you most certainly are not!! I am 73 and had not run before finding the wonderful program that is c25k. It’s been said by many who have gone through the c25k journey “just stick to the plan do it in YOUR time and take it slowly then if need be slower still. If it takes longer than nine weeks so be it, no set back is a failure because you are already a winner by starting out on this incredible journey. Yes, there will be times when y you may ask yourself “what am I doing “ but trust in the program and trust in yourself and you will be running for 30 mins it may not be 5k but that will come over time . My best week 9 run was 4.19 km in 42 mins this included the warmup and cool down walks. On Saturday I did my first parkrun and completed the 5k running and walking. The most important piece of advice I was given that I would give to anyone starting their running journey is to get your gait analysis done and get the appropriate shoes suitable for you. As far a clothing is concerned wear something loose fitting that you feel comfortable in. I rewarded myself with ‘proper running wear ‘ around week five. So!! Come on what are you waiting for? Good luck you can do it you are amazing , please keep us posted on your progress. Enjoy and believe.

Hello walkthisway - at age 61 I started C25K in January and graduated last week. Haven't run for decades. Follow the C25K programme and heed the advice of the experts and you will do it. Make sure you take the rest days and do the stretches after running. And keep it slow and steady. Good luck! 😀👍

Thanks everyone for your encouragement - I am so pleased there is so much support on here. I am going to take a look at the programmes and perhaps get some shoes - I only have walking boots. I will let you know my thoughts 😊 .

May I be so bold as to say- don’t think too long just try it. You’ll be amazed at how well the programme gets you running, slowly steadily. There seems to be a huge number of us more mature people on here who have never run and have found a new bounce to their step. I bought my shoes first - I had to continue just to justify the expense! I do hope you give it a go, this hugely supportive forum is fantastic

Good luck, he who hesitates ......

I have actually felt my knees getting stronger as I progress. Think the worst thing for knees is sitting on your bum. Just do some research and easy does it.

That is good to know - my knees are pretty dodgy and my biggest concern at the moment.
