W5R3 done, but...

Did it within the ParkRun and got a new PB of 38:07 for the 5k. But that 20 mins killed me nearly! I’m really pleased I did it but now I’m dreading the 25 mins for next week! Like I was practically praying for my music to fade out and for Sarah to tell me time was up! Anyone else similar?

You'll find it much easier if you slow down a bit.

I am going slow I feel. I’m nearly 6ft so maybe that would make it seem like I’m going fast but I don’t think I am.

It's not easy changing the pace you're used to. I found it really awkward at first. Even 20 seconds per kilometre slower will make a big difference to how out of breath you feel. Unfortunately I didn't really get this until after graduating. Mainly because I hadn't seen this forum before that.

I have two pace setting tricks that help me slow down, because I also find it tough to change my pace. The first is changing the music I listen to. And the second is to start my runs on an uphill.

Well done, it is a milestone run which should change your mental attitude to be more positive.............why do you fear a run on a training plan that you voluntarily signed up for?

This might help healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Relax, this is meant to be fun, not torture.

I’m loving it! Addicted to running. I guess I need to trust the plan as it has worked so far no matter how much I’ve dreaded a run 😂

You're doing fine. Remember when 60 seconds nearly did you in? 😀. Well done on an epic run.

That’s very true 😂

Ive had times like that but I slowed a little until I felt comfortable enough to up the pace again. Usually in the last 5 minutes. Keep going and the 20 mins will soon be a doddle like the 3 minutes now is. 👍🏻

Do you think so? There were still only 17 people behind me out of 320 😳🙄😂

It doesn’t matter how many are in front or behind, you ran it!

I can see why; the atmosphere was fantastic and everyone so welcoming and full of encouragement. 😀

Have you done one?

Er, no 😂. I will though but don’t feel anywhere near confident enough yet. My husband took part for the first time though and really enjoyed it.

Aim for a flat, busy one 😂👍🏽

lagatachocolateGraduate in reply to Tasha99

My nearest one is very flat. It is apparently getting a reputation as a fast run. The first guy came in at 16:35 and increased his pace on the last bit 😳

Our winner was 16:07! They’re not normal though. Last, over 300 people later, was 50 mins. You can do this soon I know it! 👍🏽

Wow! There are some super fast runners out there! I have no desire to become one of the sub-17 minute runners. If I can get to circa 30 mins I’ll be happy 😀

51:52 for our final runner and she got the biggest cheer!! I loved that 😀 We had 178 runners; yours is pretty big!!

Well done Tasha99! That's a great Parkrun time and you must have done really well in your 20 minutes! Just about to go and hopefully complete my R3 🏃‍♀️😲
