Week 4 looming...

Hi All,

After a stop/start beginning to c25k through an injury at the start of the year. I restarted and am now onto week 3. I have been taking it easy and taking my rest days for fear of another injury. However, i have found the jump from 90 sec runs to 3 minute runs really quite hard and by the time the 3 mins is up i literally feel like i couldnt run another second. I have one more run in week 3 to do and i can see in week 4 this jumps up to 5 minutes.

I guess i am quite nervous about the addition of another 2 minutes and just wondered if everyone felt the same at this stage?

Thanks,

The Bigboy !

Lots of people worry about the increases and then find that they can do them.

Give it a go, you can only fail if you head back to the couch permanently.

Have you read the guide to the plan?healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

You can do this.

I felt exactly the same. But I think that’s the worst bit. After three minutes your body seems to adapt. You get second wind and everything seems to settle down. I’m now on week 9. I’m still blowing after three to four minutes and then my body relaxes and I get in to the pace and breathing and rhythm all starts to flow.

If at first you don’t succeed don’t panic slow down, dig in, never give up. It will get easier.

My advice (apart from trusting the program and positive thinking) is to try slowing down a bit (or even a lot!) it really was the only thing that helped me with the time increases. It really doesn’t matter how slow you are going... you’re still running 😁... And then post grad, you will naturally speed up. Good luck, and let us know how you get on. Happy running 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Quick Update:

So, i got round to Wk4 Run 1 tonight and i have to say i was dreading it all day and felt beaten before i left the house. I should not of worried so much as i sailed through the run tonight. Mattitude, you were right you do sink into a rhythm after a few minutes and i was find it a lot easier than i thought. I had some pain at the top of both of my calf muscles but not enough to stop me and in all honesty i felt i could of run longer.

Time to have a bit more faith in myself and the system and get cracking. There is actually a part of me that is now looking forward to wk5 run 3!
