Hi all,

I started couch to 5k 4 weeks ago.

Had been doing well up till then, I seem to have over done it a little on my last run of w4.

Went on w5 first run and could manage to finish as had bad pain in my calve and didn’t want to over do it even more had to limp home which was a good 20 min from where I was.

I have had problems with my shins but they seem fine now, have been doing warm up exercises so think that has helped a lot.

But I have struggled the last two runs, has anyone got any advice they could give me??

Thank

First question is what are you wearing on your feet?

Good running shoes fitted after a gait analysis done at a specialist running shop can alleviate many aches and pains and prevent injury.

Make sure you are not overstriding. Your footfall should be under your body not out in front. Avoid heelstriking and maybe slow down.

Have you read the guide to the plan? healthunlocked.com/couchto5... which has lots of basic advice.

Rest up and then take it easy.

Hi.

Yes I went to a running shop and got advice and a pair of trainers.

I think perhaps I was going to quick. And also unsure on how to land on my foot as I run. I ran as normal and got shin splints. So I looked on line to see if I was running right and found that I shouldn’t be leaning on heel so I tried to land different and it did help splints but unfortunately gave me the other problems.

Think I may just trying to hard need to slow down a little I think.

Thank u for ur help I’ll rest for a few days and go again😁

Well done you on your achievement.

That sounds painful and you know your body best.

Calves are very important for runners.Do not stress if you have to interrupt your journey and seek medical help.

I am not a medic or fitness advisor.

If you can find your way around the info.on NHS One You /HealthUnlocked while you are resting, lots of info. for all runner's common ailments.

Sorry I cannot give you links I am a Newbie also.

I am sure you will successfully find the correct recommended course of action for you and answers to all your concerns.

Good luck,

I am sure one of the Administrators will be a long to advise you and point you toward the action you need to take.

Since you mentioned stretching I think the latest thinking is that stretching is more important on warm muscles, and cool down.Seems to be thoughts on the merits of stretching cold muscles at warm up time.

I personally always do both warm-up exercises and stretching and cool-down exercises and stretching always for any activity, not just running.

Hope this helps.perhaps other factors also, slow and steady when your ready to go again and you will address any issues I'm sure.

There are no problems only solutions, which you will get most of them addressed here.Even if you find some appropriate info. to you , it does not rule out seking a medical consultation.
