Learning to run

I’ve completed 2 weeks of couch to 5k so far. When does it get easier- my knees are really stiff on inside of leg & I’m still out of breath!

Hi! I didn’t find it was getting easier until week three...i think at first I was going too fast aswell! I slowed right down and now I can run for much longer without getting tired and breathless. My knees also hurt during first three weeks, I got my ‘gait’ tested and bought decent trainers and (touch wood) the knee pain is dwindling!! Keep at it, it’s worth it!! 👍

Thanks!

So far I’m wearing an old pair of running trainers (we’re never used for running though!). Will see about changing them if knees don’t settle.

Week 3 about to start so hopefully will improve- thanks.

Aches and minor pains are inevitable in the first few weeks if you are not used to this level of exercise, but they should ease.

Breathlessness is simply because you are going too fast. You should be able to maintain a clear, non gasping conversation as you run. If you can't,you are going too fast.

Have you read the guide to the plan? healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

I hadn’t read it but have now. Time to start focusing on what I’m doing- thanks!

Slow down.. and if you are still struggling, slow down more:)

Try these knee exercises too and the stretches for after your run :)

Very well done though... don't despair:)

It hasn't got easier for me but now I'm running for 30 mins rather than 1 😂 Just stick with it 👍🏼
