Learning to run again

Hi, Have just joined today. Having spent the first 55 years of my life being a tiny size 10 or 12 and fairly fit, I now find myself at 68 being this strangely lardy person. Dunno what happened but I don't like it. Would love to feel once again the joy that running used to give me - suspect I have a lot of hard work ahead of me, so here goes..........

Welcome and well done for deciding to get going on C25K. I started it 3 months ago (aged 63) - you are a step ahead of where I was at that stage because I had never really done any running since schooldays (and then not much) but in the last 3 months I have certainly felt the joy that running can give. Hope you feel that soon, keep it slow and tell us about your first run soon.

Welcome, Learner1234 ! Take it slow and steady and you will see a real change in your fitness and shape. I haven't lost weight but I have toned up noticeably.

Just a little caveat that in practice, and ironically, some of the people who struggle most with following the programme seem to be those who have a history of fitness. Sometimes it is second guessing and being unwilling to submit to the discipline of the slow build up, sometimes it is being fixated with stats on speed etc and forgetting that the goal isn't to do a short fast sprint but to find a pace you can sustain, that won't get you injured and that you'll enjoy doing regularly.

But it sounds as though you are bringing lots of positives to the table. Enjoy reconnecting with yourself!
