Of course not there’s lot of people doing it that way - just do but do it your way 👏

Check out the post here... lots of great information:)

Treadmill is not cheating... your C25K.. and if that is where you want to begin...that is just fine:)

As *Nike say, ‘just do it’, Liz. Seriously, this running malarkey is hard enough so whether we choose to do it indoors or out is our business only.

As a fellow newbie to running I’d like to say Good Luck, my lovely, and try to enjoy the experience.

*Other brands are available 😉

Not cheating at all. Well done on day one.

Hey really well done, and welcome! We’ve all been where you are, and are at various stages in our running. But trust me, today was maybe the hardest step, the mental challenge. Be very proud of yourself. I remember my wk1 run 1. I found it really hard!

We are all rooting for you! Will you come back and tell us how you get on?

Well done and keep going. Not cheating at all. I find running on a treadmill MUCH harder than running outside! 😄

I agree as I started on a treadmill and have now done a few runs outside. But keep going.

I do a mixture of both treadmill and outside, although I don’t feel confident outside I love the fresh air and it makes you feel good, try it one day maybe in a local park but go at your own pace, I have 5 stone I want to loose and I’m about to start week 8 😁 with a smile lol, I remember week 1 run 1 very well and now I’m jogging forc25minsc🙌 You CAN do this good luck my lovely x x

I am the same. How are you finding you weight. Except I am on week seven

deniseinbristol profile image
deniseinbristolGraduate in reply to Lc_85

I’ve lost 1 1/2 stone but also inches it’s nice because everyone is commenting and noticing the difference.. don’t get me wrong I still have a lot to loose 🙈 but I have nothing but determination to carry on.. with regards to running and weight I try not to think about it and I go at a nice steady pace like a quick walk with a bounce if that makes sense lol in a Monday I do the c25k with a group of runners and I am Always last but I’ve come to not care as my motto now is I’m out and I’m doing and most important I’m loving it 😁😁 wishing you all the luck with your coming weeks x x how are you finding it ?? Are you on the larger side too ?? Do you live in Bristol we could meet up and run together

I like your motto! I have 5 st to lose too. Currently W4R3 just done. How are your feet/ankles taking it? Mine do complain a bit

deniseinbristol profile image
deniseinbristolGraduate in reply to Squeakypoptest

Hi my ankles and feet are fine my left knee clicks and slight pain but not enough to put me off.. what troubles are you having with your feet ?? If you are getting pins and needles when you jog your laces are too tight I know this as if happened to me lol x x keep in touch and let me know how you are getting on. Keep going and keep at your pace don’t rush

I live in Scotland or that would have been nice 😀 I haven’t lost any weight. Noticing clothes fit me differently now I will say that but no pounds lost. Well done you I am the same I have quite a bit of weight to loose but like you full of determination. It’s all about the confidence I guess well done on your running group that’s great 😀😀

Hi there I hope you don't mind me jumping in on your conversation but just really inspired reading how you're both getting on 😊

I've run R2 of Wk5 today and also have at least another 3 stone to loose. I've lost 2 stone so far and since starting C25K it's really giving me a boost with my weight loss. I keep telling myself if I can run at the moment carrying this extra weight just think how much easier it will be once I've slimmed down 🤞my feet and ankles have been fine too just a few aches around my right knew but hopefully nothing else.

Great to chat with others in a similar position and see how well you'e doing, really motivational 😀

Well done!! I run both on the treadmill and outside . I think it’s harder on the treadmill, so you are definitely not cheating.

Welcome and well done.

Do read the guide to the plan linked to by Oldfloss and set your treadmill to a gradient of at least one degree to better simulate outdoors.

Enjoy your journey.

Running is running

Treadmill is easier as when you have had enough of a hill you press down but in real life that doesn’t happen :-)

I started out 4 stone heavier than today and struggled to do R1R1 but today I ran 13km and enjoyed most of it

Weight isn’t about running it’s your diet at least 80% is diet

Jayparr profile image
JayparrGraduate in reply to HGVDan

Yes it's about diet

But when you have let things slip and some days you don't care.

Running helps to clear your mind and burn them calories off and then u feel good about yourself.

HGVDan profile image
HGVDanGraduate in reply to Jayparr

Yes if I eat crap I run faster and further than planned to burn it off but still better not eating it :-)

Also I can’t run on a crap diet it holds me back

I can feel it when running if I’m badly fuelled

Jayparr profile image
JayparrGraduate in reply to HGVDan

Yes feel better now eating better

Got to have right fuel in the tank

Hi. I am the same. Except....I am on week 7 and have done three runs outside!!! I have weight to loose. Have not lost much but my body is changing. You can do this? If I can do it you can do it!! Keep going. Well done on starting. The treadmill is great for me having young kids and not feeling confident. But I am out there and I am running. You will too.

Well done! I am new too! Just finished my 2nd run 😊 Didn't think I could do it as my thighs were still a bit sore from R1, but I did it and it was fine! I'm 53 & I also need to lose about 3 stone. Onward we go! X

Well done Liz, like you I have more than a few pounds to lose but I will tell you it's not easy but you will do it. There is loads of support and advice on here oldfloss gave me some sound advice and today I ran non stop for 20 minutes. I might be a fat girl running slowly but all I have had is great support from faster runners going past me. Keep with it you will smile to youself knowing what YOU are doing moreover you will feel so proud of you achievements each week ;)

deniseinbristol profile image
deniseinbristolGraduate in reply to Cay123

I couldn’t agree with you more, I get the sympathy look from dog walkers haha but the beefy runners all out their thumbs up as I jog past ... at the end of the day I hold my head up high and think yes I’m big, yes it’s my fault and YES I’m doing something about it 😆 I never thought I a million years I’d EVER be able to jog for 25 mins but I am and I love it

I think more experienced runners know how hard we are trying. Keep it going sweetie we will knock this out of the park x

Well done you did it! You are not cheating using a treadmill as it is all about being Active and getting going. Well done on your beginning. Good luck with the weight loss and keep us posted on your progress. There will be some tough times during the programme but trust it, it does work. Good luck xxxx.

Hi I've got a target of 2 stones to lose.

I've done all my runs so far on treadmill running is running

I live very rural so no street lighting and very narrow roads.

I will do some outside specially when better weather comes.

Good luck xx

Cheating? I'd say it was the inverse, and I take my hat off to you! :) Treadmills a) scare the bejesus out of me (I would totally faceplant that :D ) b) wouldn't have had anywhere near the distraction needed for me to get through the Urgh bits. I'm in awe of folks who manage to see it through entirely on a treadmill, seems *much* harder to me! ;)

Jayparr profile image
JayparrGraduate in reply to notoutofbreath

Thank you

Yes it's not easy at times

But want to get fit enough to run a race for life in July

I'm on track so far lost half a stone so far

Thanks to everyone for your kind comments and encouragement. Day 2 of week one today. Supported by Sarah Millican and Abba. So glad I did it. Didn't think I could. Maybe will be going week one for a few weeks to get used to "running". Sometimes it's more like a bit of a brisker walk but feels like I am doing something 😬

RuthL profile image
RuthLGraduate in reply to Lizos58

Suggest you only need to repeat week one if you really didn’t manage the 1 min running parts and had to slow to a walk when you should have been running. The program is designed to gently take you forward and you need to trust it... and trust yourself. Yes. You can do it!

Good going peeps 💪👍😃. Keep going with the sessions and the healthy eating. The better your diet the better you’ll feel. Hopefully as the weight comes off you’ll be inspired to keep eating well
