That's awful. Are you ok? Did you have words with it's owner and ring the police? If it bit you it can bite a small child, so do please consider reporting it if you haven't.

Hope it wasn't too bad..

So sorry to hear that!

Seeing a medic and checking you are up to date with relevant vaccinations is a good idea.

Please make sure you see a Doctor. Dog bites almost always get infected so you should be started on preventative antibiotics.

That's horrible!

Oooh not nice - dogs are often hazard had one come up and then run through my legs mid stride! Disconcerting but could have been worse. Clearly a negligent dog owner you had there. 😡

I always carry pepper spray for that reason. I won’t run without it. Had a pair of loose German Shepard’s come after me and my dog a few weeks ago.

Illegal in the UK. (Before anyone orders some from Amazon)

Oh. I didn’t know it was illegal in the UK. Im sorry about that. I’m in Texas were people frequently even carry handguns while they run.

That's terrible, I hope you are ok. I agree with the answer above re going to a doctor - you should definitely do so even if the bite is small. You may also need another tetanus jab if your vaccinations aren't up to date (as is usually the case in adults).

I'll wager next years salary it was a small dog with the usual 'small dog syndrome'.

I've been scared a lot in life but one of the scariest was out running and a not-very-big guy straining backwards trying to control two Pit Bulls on their leashes.

B***Rd didn't even have them looped around his wrist or anything. If those leashes has slipped from his hands those dogs would have torn someone to pieces.

If you don't have access to pepper spray - Wasp spray or laundry bleach spray are arguably even better canine deterrents.

Dog bites are nothing to be taken lightly, I hope yours heals fully and quickly akaTig. And it must have been a shocking event mentally also, so do be good to yourself in that aspect also.

We seem to have a lot of Pitbulls here as well. I have sprayed more than one of them while out running and riding bicycles over the years. It is all too often that some child or older person gets torn apart or even killed. Wasp spray does work very well .And the spray will carry for about 30 feet

Plus - less legal hassle. Unfortunately the laws are sometimes infuriatingly opaque and a demented Judge or gung ho Prosecutor can make life very difficult. :(

We do have some strange laws down here. You can carry a handgun in the open but if you walk with a ball bat you must be going to a ball game or you will be arrested for it. I would feel safer if everyone were walking around with a bat And left a handgun’s at home.

That sucks. Hope it wasn't bad. Don't let it get to you. If you become nervous around dogs you will become a target as they sense it. Try carrying a dog whistle maybe?

Ouchy, thats not good. as others have said and if they have drawn blood you may need antibiotics as dogs teeth are riddled with germs :(

Thank you all for your replies.

Yes, I have managed to see the doctor. I knew my tetanus was ok but I now have antibiotics that are making me feel very nauseous. The pharmacist actually said "they may make you feel sick as a dog"!

Irish-John was quite right - I did suffer from shock for a few hours but I'm planning a visit to my brother this weekend and I'm hoping his dogs will help me over any lingering anxiety.

Some good news - the doctor said the owner should pay for some new leggings!

I meet loads of dogs on my trail runs, 99.9% friendly. I’ve had run-ins with just two, both on leads thankfully. Dogs are mostly safer than cyclists and infinitely more considerate 🙂 You just have to be careful around them, same with horses, and try to let them know you’re approaching An “ahem kind of cough sorta thing

I have been badly bitten by a dog, a corgi ☺️, so am careful. I do love dogs though
