Bit late but here’s me

Hi! I’m actually more than halfway through C25k and, whilst I’ve been looking and replying to other people’s posts, I’ve not posted myself so thought I’d start the ball rolling today. I’m 42, never run before, been active in my life but never sporty or really fit. I tried this last year but managed to fall down the stairs during Week 2 (don’t ask 🙄) and couldn’t carry on as my knees were too painful. Started again in Jan and I’ve been amazed at my progress and that I’ve actually been enjoying running! I’ve always told myself I hate running and can’t do it so it’s fantastic to be able to blow that completely out of the water. Anyway I’m on Week 6 now, a little nervous for the first time although W5R3 was actually OK. It’s great seeing encouragement on here so if anyone has any words of advice for the longer runs, I’d reallly appreciate it!

Hi - I’ve just finished W5R3 too! Can’t say I found it easy tbh - but I did it! I’ll do W6R1 tomorrow - so fingers crossed for us both! 👍👍

Thank you! I did it this morning! It felt hard going but I kept going and that feels like the most important thing. Good luck for tomorrow 🍀

No advice really, except follow this excellent programme as you’re doing - and keep posting and get lots of support. Well done, you goodthing, you!

Welcome as a poster.

Longer runs require sensible pacing. As you step up each week, make sure that your pace is very comfortable. With the second and third runs you may be able to increase pace slightly, if you wish, but completing the run is the target, not speed.

Thank you, I’m really trying not to worry about my pace but I do feel sometimes I’m speeding up a bit too much. I really really want to do this so I’ll keep trying!

Hey you! Great to see you here.

The longer runs are fine, much better than using energy to slow down and then having to start off again. Just try not to use all your energy in the first ten minutes--it's all too easy to translate that steely "I'm going for it" determination into setting off at way too much of a clip.

Look after and strengthen those knees! If I could have one thing back from my youth it would be my teenage knees.

I do think I do that sometimes so I definitely need to work on pacing myself. And great advice about the knees! I can feel that they could be stronger so will look for some exercises to do that. Thank you!
