I had a very romantic run by myself this morning. Despite the wee early hour (6am), the sky was very bright, due to clear skies and a very bright full moon. It was beautiful.

In other news, I did run 1 of week 6 today (my recovery from injury plan has me running a run or two from each week), and I had forgotten what a doozy this one is! Back to intervals after a triumphant 20 min run feels weird. The 8 min run felt harder than the previous 20 min one! Anyone know why this is? Didn’t feel impossible by any means, and I literally flew through the last 5 minute run (accompanied by the joyful return of robot legs).

Best of all, NOTHING hurts. Everything feels strong and I am so happy to be running again.

A romantic run? Well, it is nearly valentines day!

I think W6R1 is hard because it's a) longer in total b) doesn't give you time to get through the toxic ten, whereas the 20 min continuous introduced you to the joy of settling into the longer run!

So brilliant that you are back off the IC and POWERING on through the weeks!

Yes, I found that run surprisingly awkward, especially after the euphoria of the continuous 20 minute run; I too think it is because you have to get through that initial barrier all over again. I did find however that it was generally better after that, all the way to the graduation run.

Last night's supermoon was gorgeous; unfortunately my dog Jethro interpreted it as something being amiss - especially as we had a howling wind here-and spent all night charging about growling, wuffing and peering through the windows because he could see outside. He does see himself as the big, black avenger...oh well, that is Russian Blacks for you. I am shattered this morning haha...while he is sleeping peacefully and snoring like a faulty steam train.

Oh Jethro. :-) I suppose it was eerie, if you had no idea what was going on.

I am looking forward to getting onto the 25 minute run again; so lovely to really settle into a run and have the ole legs go on a sort of autopilot.

And thank you for your kind words. Being out for 6 weeks was hard, but it has taught me so much (like, it is not the end of the world, it is important to rest up properly after an injury, running will wait for you, you can build up again safely and pretty quickly, the Joy of Strength Training, lesson 101 in patience, and mostly, I LOVE TO RUN!) I hope that you are still enjoying getting out and about, Pm3eak!

Am so pleased to hear you are powering through your runs (That sounds a bit wrong, like something intestinal...). It's encouraging to know that you are fully healed and it sounds like your gradual and very sensible return is the right approach to take. Being out in the early morning in bright moonlight sounds beautiful.

I on the other hand am keeping the IC warm for now :( but hopefully not for much longer. xxx

Thanks Helene. Sounds wrong, but it is oh-so right. :-)

Sorry to hear you are still suffering with your knee; but glad you are resting up. Sometimes it is the only way. I probably would have got back out quicker had I not tried to run just a couple of weeks after pulling my hamstring. Then I read on the NHS site that it can take 6 weeks to 2 months for a hamstring to fully heal! Lesson learned.

Acceptance is key. Accepting that you are not going to be able to run for a while, and trying not to see it as the end of your running (I had my moments of despair). Wishing you a speedy healing time, dear Helene. xxx

"Trying not to see it as the end of your running" - that really struck a chord with me. I am guilty of doing this a lot - I keep thinking that I'll always have this problem and never be able to run beyond a very limited distance which is probably nonsense - after all knee problems are probably among the most common issues faced by runners.

Well, the reason I say this is because (of course), I have been guilty of doing this too. But this last injury gave me lots and lots of time to build some perspective. It is sad to not be able to run, but you have to try and keep your spirits up. Your knee WILL heal, but only if you rest it properly. Do not come back to running too soon. Have you tried the NHS knee strengthening exercises? Some of which you can do at your desk! I found that by focussing on what I could do in preparation for my eventual return to running kept my spirits up.

You know, as runners, we will get injuries, despite following all the “rules”. I do have a massive fear of getting injured again, and it does make me incredibly sad when I cannot run (especially as I run mostly to keep depression at bay). But heck, what’s a gal to do?! Pick herself up and start again, be kind to herself, and don’t give in to the internal dramatics (easier said than done, I knows).

Stay close to the forum, you have lots of lovely buddies here to gee you up and cheer you on when you are able to run again. If you see no improvement within a week of rest, could you get to a sports physio?

I agree, try to see a sports physio Helen. I am just coming off the IC due to knee issues, but with the help of my physio I am hoping not to return for the same reason sometime in the future. I have exercises specific to my knee issues,

Also if it is tracking squats may not be right for you yet. I have short knee bends as one of my physio exercises.....NOT squats. I did think I could do the squats but after speaking with the physio it was a definite no at this point.

You will be back, but sometimes patience is the key.

I was out then too... it was delicious wasnt it... I love days like that and I am so excited that it wont be too long before I can run in daylight again during the week!!!!

Oh it truly was ju-ju - cold and quiet and bright. I felt glad to be alive. Got me thinking about light early morning runs in spring and summer too. Can. Not. Wait! x
