New to running : Hi I’m 43,new on here wanting... - Couch to 5K
New to running
Couch to 5k is a great place to start. Download the app or the podcasts and follow the guidance in them. If you manage the first few weeks(i'm sure you will) get yourself some proper running shoes and have your gait analysed to get the correct ones for your running style.
Welcome! Either download one of the free Couch to 5k apps, or (if you have an iPhone) the free nhs podcasts, put your trainers on, and get started!
I’m starting again (for the fourth/fifth/sixth time, I’ve lost count!), but I use this programme because it works! And I keep coming back because somewhere in the first few weeks running stopped being something I did for long-term benefit and started being something I wanted to do and enjoyed doing.
Take it slow and steady, move on when you’ve successfully completed each week, but don’t be afraid to repeat weeks as and when you need to. And have fun!
Same here Joanne. I’m 38 and would rather walk. Thanks for posting this.
Have a look at the pinned posts- FAQs. Everything you need there. Enjoy

Wasn’t that easy??
You are at the right place!
Thanks everyone 😊
I’m 43 too and started in October. Just follow the podcasts step by step and you’ll be amazed at how much you can do!!
Hiiii Joanne2139 😀if you haven't run before C25k is a great way to get into it. I am no runner and find it hard but the folks on this forum are really nice and full of encouragement... Come on, we'll smash it together😁
Welcome, Joanne, and good luck! I’m 55 and started in about October, when my GP said, if I didn’t do something about my condition, they would. The C25K programme worked brilliantly. (Make sure you download the right app: the one you want is endorsed by the NHS and is free). After 3 weeks my blood pressure had dropped from alarming to the top end of the normal bracket. Another 4 weeks and it was bang in the middle. I finished the programme in December and have kept at it since then. All good! All you need to do is follow the instructions, and it just works. Enjoy!
