Some great tips here :)

Welcome :)

Slow and steady, listen to your body and post often for great support and encouragement :)

Start out by running at the same pace as your "brisk walk" - this is actually not an easy thing to do but is an essential skill for all runners to have.

Others, especially Old Floss and the other mentors will give you much better advice on the running than I can.

I would just say to post on here often, all your runs, good or bad plus anything else that comes to mind. Feeling part of this online community was the single biggest help to me.

Forget the "9"weeks and "5k" bit :). Just take it all slow and steady, never run on a Rest Day and enjoy the journey. :) A poll we took earlier this year showed that less than 10 percent of us graduated on time/with distance :) It's all about creating the habit of running regularly and building a solid stamina foundation to go on to speed/distance/time :)

Try and cross train on off days (but aim for 1 full day of rest a week) you’ll find it helps. I started off with the Nhs strength and flex program and went on to use a kettlebell, aerobics etc. Oh and a plank a day is a favourite of mine!!!!

One plank or one rest day? ;-)

Once you know you are going to keep on with the program, maybe by week 3 or so, go to a specialist running shop, get your gait tested, and buy the running shoes they advise for your way of running and type of feet. Expensive but really worth it as it makes running easier, more comfortable and safer...oh, and running shoes are cool.
