Have just completed week 1 and despite sore hips and tight hamstrings am still doing ok. I am nearly 65 and have never run before so maybe a bit ambitious?!

These exercises will help: nhs.uk/Livewell/c25k/Pages/.... At a minimum do them after every run; it wouldn't hurt to do them on rest days too. Obviously start gently (running and stretching) and if it gets worse instead of better see a gp or physio.
Well done for starting and Happy Christmas.
Well done for getting started - that can be the hardest bit. Just go slow with stretching. Good luck to you.
Not at all.. I started at 65 and Graduated the week before Christmas in 2015.. still here, still running and still loving it
There are many of us slightly ore, seasoned runners here... take it steady and slow...always make sure you stretch after each run too and some of us do dynamic warm up before running too.

Try to land lightly and gently... some extra exercise on rest days may help also.. We have to keep everything supple

Enjoy your journey
Congrats on embarking on a great journey! No, you are not being too ambitious! It will get easier as your body adapts. And the best part is that you will come to enjoy running more with each passing week. Not every run will be fun. You will be challenged and want to quit sometimes. Just keep at it, do your stretches before and after, repeat a session or week if you need (no sin in it!), trust in your abilities, and you will do it! Cheers and happy holidays!
