I love British weather, I really do. So warm and sunny, even in winter. Oh, wait... no, that’s right, I DON’T love British weather...
I headed out this morning for a run. Lovely crisp morning, quite cold, but it was fine. I took literally about 10 steps of my warm up walk to discover that the pavement and road were covered in black ice. Couldn’t see it, but certainly didn’t feel safe, so I bravely turned round and went back as made a cup of tea!
Fast forward 2 hours, sun still out, ice seemed to have gone, so off I headed. I was quite tired, as it’s been a really busy week, what with driving up north to see my daughter in a play, singing out with my barbershop chorus, and of course work. So I decided just to do 20 minutes on my new hilly route, and it was great, I loved it!
Don’t give up folks, even 20 minutes is better than no minutes. It’s easy to find excuses not to run, but usually possible to find a way, and when you do it feels great!
Good on you. I think the hardest part is to get motivated.
Now to give you an example of my morning run: day light here was around 4.30am. Living near a boat launching ramp, all those recreational fishermen just chatter while launching their boat. The crayfishes are running and everyone wants to check their pots first thing in the morning before somebody else raid them. With my windows open I may as well get up. First put on flies repealant (they love the sweat) and off I went, fresh air, down the road, all quiet there, around one park, along the water, back to the boat ramp dodging the reversing trailers, around the lagoon, along the park, up through the bush and down the beach. Keeping my mouth shut as the flies have woken up, hope they won’t go in my nose. Repealant is working, all good. Turn around and head home the same way.
Then I sit outside having breakfast and watch other joggers trying to fit in a run before work. I love being retired 😂
Very sensible! I am at me mum's house in Norfolk this weekend, and ventured out for a run at 8am, as the pavements looked fine. After a few steps I felt the slippiness - black ice! So I minced to the local playing field and ran around that like a demented hamster for 25 mins!
I love 20 min runs! Still building myself up after three weeks out, so doing 20-25 mins super slowly. Feels nice.
Go you for running after a busy week! Super committed Neil, I am proud of you. Keep it up.
Hahaha, a demented hamster! My husband is recovering from a motorcycle accident and the painkillers he was on made him see hamsters. Those hamsters were on the table at the end of his bed and were twitching their whiskers....... 🐀
Ohhhhh, I cannot WAITto get out tomora, I’ve not been out since last Monday & that’s a long time for me....Had a weekend away for a family wedding & have been splashing around in a hot tub all weekend so I’m desperate to get out there!! It’s warmed up out there too so I should be ok first thing...🏃🏼♀️🏃🏼♀️🏃🏼♀️
