Post op running!!!

Long story short I had my tonsils removed on the 8th November it was extremely complicated and I managed to get an infection and a rotten cold on top of it!!

So I’m only just feeling 100% I’ve been running about 6 times since the op and it appears I’ve completely lost my mojo 😫

I did however manage to run a good 30mins yesterday but I can’t say it was easy or pleasurable!!

I ran a 10k on the 5th November and I wasn’t last lol at the moment it feels like a 10k is impossible!!

Any advice on how to get my fitness back??

Having your tonsils out at any point after the age of 10 is a big deal & as an adult it is horrendous!!!you have really been through the mill so you may be trying to do too much too soon.you probably need to take it easy for alot longer before your running what you were beforehand.be kind to yourself & get back to it gradually xx

I’m not gonna lie it was beyond awful never experienced pain like it!! I don’t know maybe your right and I’m doing too much but I put so much hard work in to be able to run that 10k and I feel like it’s all lost!!

Hopefully after a few more 30min runs I will feel more up for running further/longer!

I totally understand.i only have a puny little cold into week 5 & already worrying about not running!!!but your poor system has taken such a beating honestly think you need to get better.if you were at that level before then i reckon it wont be too much of a problem & wont take you long before you are capable again...rest up & start the new year feeling fit & healthy then there will no stopping you xx

Well done! You've done well to run 30 mins after that operation, take it easy and build up slowly..

Yeah just keep plugging away. Being more mobile in general does help. Walking everywhere, walking more, walking further. Carrying on with your running of course, making small increases week on week gets you where you want to go. You could do some cross training. Walking is one, swimming, cycling, gym or home based exercise. I do Jillian Michaels DVD's at home which kick one's ass. Yoga, pilates etc etc. Every little helps. Dancing in your front room is another good one. Free and fun. Check out the Friday dance!

Eating drinking healthily! We can feel pretty cruddy if our food is not up to supporting our exercise, and your return from being poorly needs bearing in mind, so good food is important

Good luck! You can get to 10k of course you can! It just takes time and patience but it's well worth doing. Once nailed it opens up your running to much wider possibilities. Oh yess!

Having an anaesthetic really pulls you down. I had surgery last year and it took weeks to feel right. You will get your mojo back, but be gentle with yourself or you will set yourself back and put yourself off x
