Love a bit of downhill running especially near the end of a run 😁

If you've run up the hill I think you deserve to run back down it!

It is the reward for running uphill! My runs tend to start with the first 2k generally being uphill which means the final 2k are generally downhill and I love it.

downhill running can be equally challenging, but its also a great relief when you've ran up the hill!!!

I think you will gradually become to love them because they come after an up hill They are a blessed relief

if you do the uppy bit you deserve the downy bit...

I understand what you mean, but I find running downhill challenging because I tend to stretch the pace, rather than keep it even. That said, I have no choice to run downhill where I live as my average elevation gain is 49m across a 4km run, and what goes up must come down.

There is a 10k race that is point to point that is mainly all downhill... of course, great PB potential!!! I really don't mind running down hills and getting PB's :-)

Nope. No choice here. I moan like stink about the hills and am only too pleased to get a downy rather than an uppy bit. Flat would be better but aint going to happen. Anyway, downhill can have its challenges, including being hard on your knees. You are so NOT cheating 😊

I am a proud cheat. Uphill running is difficult

downhill is actually harder work on your muscles than uphill.

β€’ in reply toRignold

Oh really?thats weird as running uphill feels so much harder!!!

Muscles and bones, because of increased impact.

I sometimes think this! But I know it's harder impact-wise as Rignold and IannodaTruffe says. Can feel it in my knees!

I do like to have my ups and downs balanced in a run - and in life if possible!

Oooo harsh on yourself!!

I love that being carried along feeling- and at some point you will do the uphill counterpart - unless you are running all the way down to the beach then catching the tram back!! πŸ˜€

β€’ in reply toElfe5

Dont get me wrong i do love a downhill run but still feels a bit like cheating...especially as its still early days & i am trying to build up some sort of stamina.on the flip side of that i really dont like any sort of uphill...even a alight incline at this stage feels like such a struggle!!!

Elfe5 profile image

Yes I find up hill hard going, so I take smaller steps and go super slow. It is definitely easier now than it was three weeks ago so I must be improving. πŸ˜ƒ

Sigh....one day I'm going to find a bit of flat and see what happens...

You'll be bored and tired, is what. There's joy in the hills (and the variety is good for body and soul)

I don't mind going downhill. Trouble is where I live that any hill you go down you have to go back up again, and on my route the biggest hill to go back up is right near the end of the run!

β€’ in reply toMikeJones68

Oh god...thats the worst!!!so far i have tried to avoid hills or slopes of any sort but today i decided to stop faffing about & just deal with them haha πŸ€£πŸ˜‚

MikeJones68 profile image

That's the way to do it :)

Oh dear. During week 4 and 5 I had sore shins, but that seems to have gone away.

My first run of week 9 was scuppered on Saturday when my right calf decided to go twang :(

β€’ in reply toMikeJones68

Ouchy!!!thats a shame!!!is it easing up now?i have compression socks & next run will have a knee support to hold me together haha πŸ€£πŸ˜‚ #getting old 😳

MikeJones68 profile image
MikeJones68Graduateβ€’ in reply to

It's easing up and I can walk at a reasonable pace again today. Old? You look about 20 years younger than me! LOL.

β€’ in reply toMikeJones68

Thats good...glad its getting better 😊 i am 44 but my knees feel much older today haha πŸ€£πŸ˜‚

MikeJones68 profile image
MikeJones68Graduateβ€’ in reply to

Oh, OK. Then you look a lot younger than you are! I'm only 5 years ahead. Take care of those knees!

β€’ in reply toMikeJones68

Oh shucks!!!😳 thankyou 😊

β€’ in reply to

I have had no leg or knee problems whatsoever with my hills, despite my ancient knee injury - probably because I had been walking up and down the bastards for 16 months before i began running up and down them.

β€’ in reply to

That sounds like good preparation 😊
