After finding my Mojo last Monday I then got back to the gym on Tuesday. Unfortunately my enthusiasm meant that I may have overdone the squats, lunges, leg extensions and leg presses, as by the evening my calves were starting to complain. They were then arguing with my Mojo on Wednesday morning when I woke with every intention of running. It wasn’t worth running with painful legs, so I decided on an extra rest day.
Unfortunately the rest of my week has been manic, with a bonkers day at work (the first in over a year) followed by a long rehearsal in London on Thursday, Friday was spent having nails and hair done before accompanying Mr R to a work do - annual Railway Industry Ball . I was a little “tired” on Saturday morning, and then Saturday evening I was at The Abbey Road Studios recording vocals for a Rock Classics CD. Then Sunday morning was wall to wall baking for my friends who were coming for afternoon tea.
So I was determined to get out and run this morning as I had made and eaten 3 types of finger sandwiches, plain and fruit scones, mini pavlovas, Tiffin, chocolate tarts, lime and coconut sponge, ginger and caramel cake, carrot cake, shortbread, all washed down with a few glasses of Prosecco. At least I was well fuelled, and despite it being a week since my last run, I was raring to go, and even managed my fastest ever km at 4.15minutes.
So the moral of this story, more rest days 🛏 , more cake 🍰 and more fizz 🍾 is good for running 🏃🏽♀️. 😂😂😂

Hang on..... you MADE all of that yourself??!! And then ran 4.15m km?!!!! Blimey that's insane! I can rustle up a scone but that's about my limit and I've done 6.05m km once (and only once!). Plenty of inspiration there to keep me occupied in the kitchen and on a run! Well done on all counts
I love baking but my family don’t really eat cake, so when other people are coming I cook loads to compensate. I may have made it all but I didn’t eat it all. I have a habit of overcatering, so took a large plateful of goodies round to the family next door yesterday evening, then visited the old man on the other side at elevenses time this morning with a selection.
This was the first time ever at Abbey Road and I was so excited as we several other members of the choir. It was a really fun experience and I can’t wait to get my copy of the CD. 🤩
Oh my goodness, you blog made me smile. Please don't think I'm that speedy. I'm usually around 5.30 or more for a km.
I was trying to do the Speed podcast with Laura on a weekly basis, but generally would rather pull out my own eyelashes one by one, so do my best to avoid it. I start with good intentions and the first fast interval I run fast, but then it takes me so long to recover the slower paced run is slow, and I'm only just about recovered when the next speedy bit comes along, and then things just get gradually slower and slower. My speedy km was a sheer fluke, probably downhill with a following wind or something, and early on in the run.
But I'm intrigued to know where abouts at Barbican you are running. I go to the City of London Girls School twice a week and should have been there tonight (but I'm skiving to go to a choir practice locally). Perhaps our paths will cross another time.
In fact I'll be there on Thursday and and again on Saturday and Sunday as we have a big Carol Concert on Sunday evening at the Barbican.
Actually in the Barbican on the high walk oh and BTW 5.30 blimey that's speedy too!
So maybe you used to go to the girls school before it had its nice new shiny building?
We are about 5 minutes walk away! And Thursday morning I am running - maybe Barbican, maybe Regents Park. Thursday afternoon scheduled dreaded Christmas shopping - it's the one off trip and that's that!
Saturday and Sunday we are in London, so Mr JCR usually cycles in the morning and I run - locations vary.... are you staying overnight? Could meet up for a sneaky run/coffee if your schedule permits?
I'm not staying overnight, but it might be good to meet for a sneaky coffee. There's a nice place on Whitecross Lane called Fix where we could meet. I could do Saturday at 2:00, or Sunday at 4ish if that's any good.
4.15 km - wow those cakes and fancies are rocket fuel!!!
The moral of the story: let them eat cake! Im super jealous. Im vegan; if I eat dairy, my joints get painful. Im too lazy to cook vegan cakes, though I should, especially as I have a Kmix sitting doing nothing. Your spread is an inspiration and quite clearly super running fuel!
I recently saw a Nigella Lawson programme with a rather lovely looking vegan cake made with coconut milk to replace the dairy element, and I thought I might give that a try just to see what it's like.
My cooking, like my running and singing, is one of those things I enjoy doing is quite therapeutic too.
Ooh, tell me how it works out. It’s so hard to replace butter and get the same oomph
