Running on consecutive days

Has anyone else run two days running rather than having a rest day? I am really struggling to fit in a run on a week day - out 7am to 6pm with a couple of hours work in the evening. I ran this morning and plan to run tomorrow as well, hoping I'll manage one run in the week.

What do people think?

It is not advisable to run back to back the 9 weeks is designed so you run 3 times a week with a rest day in between the rest period is when your muscles repair the small tears created when you run. Run when you can the programme is flexible but you need to take the rest days and you will probably get more replies saying the same thing.

manofkent is right, rest days are important, don't run on consecutive days. Better to take longer to complete a 'week' than risk injury.

Tricky when you work long hours, but if you could fit a run in later at night or early morning it will improve your wellbeing and lift your mood...

We have both early risers and late night runners on here.😊

Good luck..

Very helpful advice about taking longer to complete a "week" than skipping a rest day - thanks for that

Aghghgh!

Don't do it..just get up early...really early..darker mornings...? High viz and head torch🙂 Same applies if you run in the evening...🙂

Seriously..it is as MichaelH070862 and Bluebirdrunner say..the way to the IC...and you really do not want to be there☹

Running on consecutive days is not recommended until you have been running regularly for at least a year. An arbitrary figure no doubt, but I would not recommend that any new runner misses a rest day. Being injured is dispiriting and highly likely to put you off the whole idea of running.

C25K weeks do not have to coincide with calendar weeks and you will not suffer from having a few days between runs. You have the rest of your life to run, no need to rush through the first few weeks.

Good luck.

Thanks for all of the advice. I have really enjoyed weeks 1 + 2 whilst on holiday, and have been so frustrated this week that I couldn't get out now that I'm back at work. I loved W3R1 this morning (never ever thought I'd say that!) and really wanted to go out again tomorrow. However, I will reluctantly be sensible and just go for a walk tomorrow. Thanks for your help and support. :)

A friend at work runs marathons and he won't run on consecutive days, even on his 'short' 6 mile runs.

If you want to do something on the rest days, do something light, swimming, walking or gym work (but not squats obviously).

I'm walking on rest days, scouting out routes for later in the program.

Great idea LeeU, I'll try the walk-scouting on rest days

So I followed all of your advice, had a rest day yesterday and went walking instead. Today, got up at 5am and went running with the dog. W3R2 completed - felt great. Thanks for your help :)
