Odd post but!

I have realised over recent weeks that the majority of members/runners on here are of the female variety or so it appears, further to this the majority of runners I observe out there on the roads also seem to be of the female type.

Is it just me or is this the case and if so why I wonder?

... But running clubs I've looked into have more men... what a good question!

Rolysmate, I think forums are often more populated by women, in my case cos I like to talk and I’m nosey 😬.

In my experience outdoors I think it’s 50/50 gender.parkrun is the same but the faster, more serious runners tend to be men with a few very fit women running at that pace.

My hubby thinks that the running clubs tend to be dominated by men as the clubs demand commitment and often (his words not mine) it’s easier for men to do that as women usually have too many other demands -although I’m sure there are many men out there who struggle too with balancing what they want to do with family/work demands.

London at the Finsbury Park Run 200 ish men vs 120 women. On the City Streets I’d say 3x more men than women..

but that could just be a demographic skew I suppose, I live near the City and it is still predominantly male.

On the forum, I am no expert, but this has been the first one I’ve ever joined, because it seemed friendly without the naming and shaming you can get on things like Facebook, Twitter etc. Maybe that is the reason you see more women on here? A friendly safe space to chat is a glorious thing!

I seem to see more ladies running than men around me, I shall possibly have to be more observant!

My local parkrun has an unofficial facebook group associated with it (as well as the usual official FB page) - the purpose of which is for keener members of the local parkrun to get together for "extra" mid -week and weekend runs. I have noticed that by far (80/20) these extra runs are frequented by female parkrunners . Have no idea why but suspect that it has something to do with the social nature of the runs and personal safety - quite often in winter they are done in the dark early mornings as most work during the day.

If you run where I am you see men on the streets but our local fun runners group is mostly women 😁

Ha rolysmate perhaps you've just got more of an eye for the ladies 😉

Just joking ... I think when I'm out running I'm overtaken by equal quantities of men and women 😂though both sexes seem equally friendly (or not) the men invariably are kitted out with all the best stuff.

Also think women often post more on social media than men so maybe that accounts for the online bias?

I see far more men than women. I have noticed that the women I see mostly run alone, whereas men seem more likely to run in groups. (I suspect that this has something to do with family commitments that many women have, that limit their flexibility and make it harder for them to commit to specific time arrangements. I know that sounds very stereotypical, but then here gender roles re family are often far more rigid).

Since I am in Rome, nearly everyone is kitted up to the eyeballs.

More than anything, I am baffled by different levels of friendliness depending on the route. When I run through the forum, lots of other runners wave or say hello. But when I run in the park, no-one does, at all, and very few do when I run by the river. Maybe no-one wants to risk looking like a creep at the park or in other secluded places?
