Feeling Happy!

I am feeling very pleased with myself as following graduating a few weeks ago i am actually enjoying running! I think the pressure is off now that i know i have achieved the 30 minutes. Not sure i will ever be able to run the full 5k, but i am definitely getting a bit further each time. I hope to join a park run soon but not until i know i can finish in a reasonable time!

Well done and congratulations on graduating. I am sure you’ll manage 5k, good that you have a new goal 😁

Hi there. Loving the name as a fellow Wendy! Well done on graduating. That’s fantastic. I’ve 2 runs to go and can’t believe how close the podium is. I’m sure the 5k distance is not out of reach but it does give you a great goal to work to by steadily increasing your time as you have done so far. I think the park runs sounds brilliant and am really looking forward to doing one. I understand that lots of people don’t run the entire 5 k and mix in walking so maybe it’s worth giving one a go. Just take it at your own pace and think how far you have come in only 9 weeks.

Good luck with your last two runs! It is amazing how this programme does actually work in just 9 weeks, i didn't think it would , when i started a minute seemed to go on forever!

That's great to hear. Running should be fun, not a chore.

You will love the supportive and welcoming nature of parkrun, wherever you do it. Last week the parkrun newsletter stated that countrywide the times varied from 14 minutes to 1 hour 11 minutes, emphasising that all are welcome, even if they walk it all.

Keep running, keep smiling.

Great that you're enjoying it. And don't worry about the 5L distance. You can do a Parkrun and just walk the last bit. We have people who walk the entire course with walking sticks at ours, and lots mix walking and running too.

Happy running. :-)

You know, enjoying it is the main thing I'm sure. Well done Wendy :)

Just run... runs for pure joy... consolidation of the 30 minutes and some different routes too ? Then maybe try the C25K+ podcasts.. they are different.. and fun :) When ready, try the 5K.. your way and in your own time:)

I didn't really start enjoying it till I graduated either. I would say join park run now, don't wait. If you are worried you can check on-line how long the slowest people take at your local run. But almost all of them have everything from super speedy youngsters to slow and steady and often power walkers too. It's great fun and it's what keeps me motivated.

Good idea. I will check the last few weeks slowest finishing times.

Hi Wendy. I checked out the times before I did my first Parkrun and knew that even if I walked the whole way I would not be last! Give it a try but just make sure that you don’t get carried along by the other runners and go off too fast. My best time has been when I have taken it steady and maintained a reasonable pace all the way round. Like you I didn’t really enjoy running until after I had graduated and I still have some days when it doesn’t feel right but overall I am hooked! Good luck with the Parkrun.
