The title says it all!! 3°C at 8:15am!! You’ve got to be kidding me!! Freeezzzziinnngggg ❄️❄️ I had to scrape ice off the car this morning!!

Still, I donned the gear, with long sleeved running top on, cranked up my tunes, set MapMyRun ready to record added some tissues to my running belt, that was already packed with my phone and keys and headed out the door!!

Bloody hell, was that a shocker 😳 I mean I knew it was cold as I’d already taken my girls to school so knew what it was like but driving in a car is completely different to doing an 8 min warm up walk!!

Warm up done and off I set. Today’s run as going to be a nice gentle consolidation run of 5km.

Since graduating, I keep expecting a brick wall to hit me when it comes to the actual running but so far, and I have no idea why or how, this has not happened and I feel pretty good about it.

I’m running because I want to run, I enjoy running because it clears my head, I need running to balance my life and because I have followed this program, my running is becoming more and more enjoyable with each run that passes.

Running, for me, is not about smashing 20 seconds off my last time or running so fast that I can’t breathe or running hard so that I injure myself or trying to outrun others.

Running for me is about freedom, peace of mind, inner calm, clear headspace, 💭my feet gently kissing the ground, 💋listening to long forgotten tunes🎶 (gotta love the shuffle function), seeing the world around me, 🌎 taking in clean and fresh air, time alone with my thoughts, making never ending to do lists for Christmas🎅🏼🎄🤶🏼, but most of all running is good for my soul. 💆🏼

It makes me happy 😃. It makes me smile 😊. It makes me feel whole ⭕️

God bless those lovely little endorphins and god bless all you wonderful, beautiful, gorgeous, lovely, encouraging, awesome people on here, who I am proud and privileged to call my FRIENDS 👦🏻👧🏼👨🏻👩🏻👱🏽‍♀️👱🏼 because without you, I wouldn’t be here today rambling on and on and on and on........

Happy running folks 🏃🏻‍♀️☀️🏃🏼Now get out there and show the world what you’re made of!! 👍🏼👍🏼

Haha, oh yes it was. Mine was meant to be the easy 5K run but given l was half frozen with fingers hurting and no gloves, l ran fast, as fast as l could. Past 3K l was comfortable and sweaty but here's the sign of things to come, especially for morning runs. But hey, at least the sky, the leaves and the smell of grass were beautiful so all was well in the end ;)

Kimchoc08 profile image

Love the early morning runs but I’ll need to invest in some running gloves as my fingers were the coldest part of me today!!

Ha, I found the same, cold hands to start with but I knew they would soon warm up!!

I was born to live in the warmth...not looking forward to cold 😵

mrrun profile image

Let's go positive here ;) Weather isn't good or bad, it just is.

Cold? Fleece, hat'n'gloves will put a stop to that. Still cold? Run longer and faster.

Hidden and l have a shared experience of running in extreme heat in the summer where the Celsius was toying with 40 degrees. Still doable ;)

As l once said, unlike German cars we tend to struggle at times but we still plough on and come out good.

Winter? So what :)

Absolutely...can’t do anything about it, just have to man up & wrap up!!! Lol 😉

Isn’t it strange that we feel jealous when others are out running and we’re on a rest day?!! Who’d have thought that we’d be jealous of runners 🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏼

That was a really lovely post Kim. And a great perspective too. Yes it was cold here as well. Just 2 degrees yesterday, so I’ve been using the old fingerless gloves and lots of layers, like a big slice of cake!

Kimchoc08 profile image
Kimchoc08Graduate in reply toDecker

I need to buy gloves and a good base layer!!

Lovely post Kim, it really resonated with me. I know exactly what you mean about peace of mind and clear headspace. And I love listening to old faves on my phone.

Make sure you get yourself some running gloves. I couldn't face the wintry runs without them.

What a wonderful post! Your reasons for running and what it does for you resonated with me . I feel the same way. It is great, isn't it? Continue to enjoy your runs, as cool as they are becoming.....

It is wonderful and I shall now be purchasing base layers for the upcoming colder months!!

SaskAlliecat profile image

Great idea! It's chilly this morning in the Canadian prairies (-12 with windchill 😬) so thinking of when to fit my run in and what to wear....but NOT thinking "Do I want to run?" because that's an obvious YES!

Kimchoc08 profile image
Kimchoc08Graduate in reply toSaskAlliecat

You’ve got -12 with windchill and there’s me complaining about 3°C in England!! Hope you fit your run into your day, whenever it might be!!

SaskAlliecat profile image
SaskAlliecatGraduate in reply toKimchoc08

The first cold runs of the season are a bit of a shocker, aren't they?. A run last week was around that 3 degrees and my thumbs and face were very cold for the first 2k. Fortunately they warmed up. I suspect the gloves won't be coming off on today's run!

Kimchoc08 profile image
Kimchoc08Graduate in reply toSaskAlliecat

My legs aren’t affected at all by the cold and once I’ve been running for approx 5-10 mins, my arms are ok but my fingers are another story!! I think they warmed up about 5 mins from the end!! Gloves must be purchased and soon, I think!!

I was up at 0530 to do arm day before going for a run with the dogs.

My fingers were sticking to the barbell for the first sets.

We are so on the same page/wavelength re running and I'm slightly envious of your cold morning run. I'm managing about 2.6km in about 18 mins but actually not bothered about distance here. If I can run for 20 mins tomorrow that'll be great if not it's no problem. I still get to run along a beautiful Caribbean beach with the sound of gentle waves lapping on the shore. The temperature however is a little tedious but then when I'm not running it's just perfect. Happy running. Another beautiful post lovely lady.

Kimchoc08 profile image

Thank you 😊 I’ve always been a fan of the colder mornings even before I’d taken up running 🏃🏻‍♀️ so now I get to enjoy them even more 😊 Enjoy the Caribbean 🏖🏝

I absolute loved your post....so inspiring 😊

Like you, I’m not interested in running to beat the clock, just the freedom and solitude does for me.

My sisters passing is what got me going 4 weeks, and since then I’ve got the bug. I’d sooner have my sister around but a good situation has come off the back of a bad one.

She’ll be by my side on Dec 3rd for the 5k charity run I’m sure! 😊

Happy running young lady xx

Lovely...l enjoy your posts, always so positive, I know I’ve had a few practice runs since graduation that make me doubt myself, I’m glad you have only experienced good runs since yours...no need for you to mix things up, you’re def doing something right..x

Love your posts! :) Tissues! I forgot mine today, bad move! I got some Karrimor running gloves cheap on Amazon, wore them today and they did the trick so nicely I had to take them off! And are now in the wash and they doubled as a tissue!! Ew but needs must and all that! :)
