W6 R1 why has it dropped from 20 minutes?!

I couldn’t believe it when Sarah said we’re running for 5, then 8 and then 5 minutes. I ran for 20 minutes two days ago so now I’m baffled! Any ideas? I’d prefer to just keep running as stopping and starting again is harder. Is that why?! Enjoy your Sunday evening my friendly running folk 😆

Ha ha ha! That rather annoyed me too! There must be a reason for going back to intervals...though I have no idea why. Intervals build stamina maybe? It's only a week and then back to continuous runs again.

All about the discipline in our running... that is why... not just following on with the same patterns.

The programme has different challenges and variations.. to make sure we are progressing in all areas... Just follow the plan..move in and take each one as it comes. The next few weeks take you though lovely long runs and you will be ready for those too :)

Go with the flow 😁 when you hit those 25 and 28mins runs it falls into place. Well done on w6 too.

I agree that stopping & starting seems harder so I'm sure t builds stamina. How did you find Wk6 R1?? ☺

That would make sense. First few minutes after starting again are rough for me. Do you find that or is it just me?! I found it relatively easy in comparison to week 5. Can’t believe there’s only 4 weeks left 😳

I find that too! I felt good at end of first 8 minutes but my legs hurt in the 5 minute walk, then eased up again when I got into the next 8 minutes. Think I'd have found a straight 21 minutes easier but remind me of that when I keel over on Run3! 4 weeks left, eeek 😳

W6R1 is the longest workout to date.

It catches many people out so don't get cocky.

Can you really do a brisk walk with no effort?

Nice and slow.......

I think cocky is far from what I am and I didn’t say it was effortless at any point. Why the rant?!

Hey Hidden just take a breath, I don't think Ian was having a rant, lots of people have stumbled at W6R1.

You are doing so well, just stick with the program, and where necessary ... Slow and Steady ... although that's ironic coming from me, I don't see to be able to run slower than 6:45/km

Onward and upwards, just a few weeks to go ... ;-)

I've been doing a lot of reading lately on different training plans and the theory behind them as I look forward to training for long distance running (I graduated from c25k a few months ago and am close to my current goal of 10k, so am looking forward to my next goals). A common theme in the running books is that you cannot continue to increase your distance and intensity week after week after week and must plan a rest week every 3-4 weeks where the running distance is reduced. I suspect the theory behind this shift back to intervals in the C25k plan is to allow your body to heal from achieving a huge accomplishment you just made in running 20 minutes straight and to ensure success in the longer runs to come. The run after w5r3 can be very challenging mentally and physically because your legs will be tired, you may start out too fast because it is a shorter run time and you think "it is only 5 minutes or 8 minutes". As others have said, trust the programme, go out slow and steady and if you find w6r1 hard, don't be discouraged, you're not the only one who felt that way on this run. However many of us have gone on to do it, graduate, and continue on running. Best of luck in your running journey and continue to post your questions, concerns, and successes . It really is quite a ride 😁
