From 8 minutes to 20? Seriously?

Hey all

I have just completed c25k week 5 run 2 and I’m wondering how on Earth it goes from two 8 minute runs to a full 20 minute run? I’m feeling a bit skeptical that I’m going to be able to do this next run 🙈

Please send tips/support/ ( ambulance ?!) 💐

Do not worry about run 3 of week 5, trust the program, all your runs up to this one have all been to get you ready for it, take that run slowly, after you complete it you will be very proud of yourself 😊 🏃.

It goes from running for 16 minutes plus 5 minutes brisk walking...... total 21 minutes......to a mere 20 minutes.

It is all explained in the post linked to by GoGo_JoJo

You can do this.

You definitely won't need an ambulance 😂 your face on the other hand will be sore from smiling😊

Just trust the plan and go slow make sure you are well hydrated and come back and post when you've done it 😊😊

You go from 2x8 (16) with a brisk walk in between... so a 21 minute cardio workout... to a 20 minute cardio workout. Your legs won’t feel much difference, your heart and lungs won’t either... it’s all mental. A nice slow steady pace, especially in the first half, and you’ll be just fine. You’re ready, you can do this. Relax and enjoy it.

I know exactly how you are feeling... I did W5R2 yesterday and to be honest I felt like Forest Gump, it felt as though I was just running and running and running and it felt amazing.... it was however only 8 minutes!

Tomorrow night is my 20 minute run, I have read all the posts on here that explain the 21 minutes I did yesterday but my brain keeps saying 'yeah but i walked for 5 of those' even though I am certain that I walk faster than I run the fact I will not have that walk really does scare me.

The excitement for getting out there and doing it is slowly being outweighed by the sheer terror that I am going to attempt to run for a solid 20 minutes but I am going to put my faith in the program, keep my little japanese jogging man in my head so that i go slow and give it the best shot that I can.

I am sure you will be able to do the 20 mins and I know we are not alone in the fear of 'the big jump to 20'. Good luck!

I think almost everyone who has done this run has had the same thought, and I promise you can make it!! Just don't think about it, start running, go slow, and you won't believe how happy you'll be when you finish!

I did that on sunday and also felt shocked and approached the hill at just wrong time... I was knackered so paused run walked up the hill and then did rest of run.... maybe 1 min recovery.. today (Tuesday) did run and hill and was not as bad as thought. It's the hill that kills me lol. After hill was easy. It's the first 5 minutes I feel most knackered and last 2 minutes... just do run again if you dont manage. However it isn't as bad. As they say it's in mind. Just go slow....

Make sure you take the time to pat yourself on the back when you’ve done it. You’ll feel amazing. Aside from week one, this is the biggest challenge - the rest of the programme is just slight increases.

Treat yourself afterwards!

Just back from doing it. W5 R3 sounds like a big step up, but it's actually a much more natural progression than you think. The barrier is psychological rather than physical. You'll amaze yourself.

Thanks to every one of you who took the time to comment ... I did it!! My legs felt like dead weights and I’d had a ten hour day at work first, but I did not stop! Woohoo! I amazed myself! Ps I didn’t require an ambulance either 😂 if I can do it anyone can 🎉
