good music helps massively and positive head chatter - main obstacle I think is self talk. Good luck x

Another big thumbs up for good music from me. I found this really helped to carry me along. I make a new playlist for each run, pick songs of a good tempo with a slower song at the start and end for the walking sections. I find that I get carried along by the songs and each is around 4-5 mins long, so when you are doing longer runs it gives you a good way of judging where you are in the running segments. Above all well done for getting back out there and giving it another go and good luck.

Hi Leighanne, well done for starting the plan today. Forget about your past attempts and start fresh...

Take the run section at a nice steady pace, just a gentle jog...I know its not easy but try to stay relaxed in the shoulders and your head up. Don't worry that you feel puffed its normal, just recover as much as you can during the walk break..then go again nice and steady..

Take it one run at a time. Always take at least one days rest between run days.

Do some gentle leg stretches after your warm down walk while your muscles are still warm. Drink water after your run but also on non run days, it will help your muscles.

Come on here and post about your run, we can encourage you and it will help you stay motivated...

Good luck with W1 R1..😊

Well done for getting started again Leighanne - sounds like you're already good at motivating yourself! I've only just started week 2 so haven't got loads of top tips or experience to offer but this forum seems to be great and if you post on it we can all help cheer you along. Every step you do is progress so good on you for taking the first one and getting back on the horse! Looking forward to hearing how you get on 🐎

I just started this morning , had my 14 year old son with me which was brilliant , he's a competitive swimmer, does all sorts of other sports and gym , but he kept with me every step of the way and got me through my first session. I found the first 2 runs I could only do 40 seconds but then something just happened and I then completed the following ones with no problem. I've never run in my life and can honestly say it wasn't as bad as I thought . Get lots of support and maybe find a friend to do it with , it certainly helped me because without my son I think I would have just walked and missed some out . I must get some better clothing though as my thin fleece jacket was too thick and uncomfortable to have tied around my waist , , Good luck !!
