Week five runs completed and I ain’t gonna lie running for 20 mins was no picnic but I did it and if I can do it anyone can.

Michael is right when he says it’s more of a mental challenge.

I have been inspired by members of this group so far. Thank you.

Still on course to do my first Park Run before Christmas.

You are right, in the latter states it is all in the head. If you can switch your brain off, it's a doddle. You are also right that this forum does help and make a difference.

revrock W5R3 is a enabler, it makes you realise that the program has been preparing your body, even without you realising it, this run is a test to see if you can break the psychological barrier.

You've broken that now, just keep saying this to yourself:

If I can run for 20 minutes, I can run for 25,

If I can run for 25 minutes, I can run for 28,

If I can run for 28 minutes, I can run for 30.

It got me from the point you're now at though to the end of the program, it's now all in your head. Don't get me wrong, the runs were still challenging but I didn't really suffer from many gremlins, when my head was telling me that I need to stop, I kept telling myself one more minute.

Brilliant, I’m with you on the mental challenge. My legs were good, breathing fine but my mind didn’t believe it until I finished. Good luck with Week 6

Well done.

Once you have acquired your basic fitness in the first half of the programme, you are quite right, it becomes a much more mental challenge in the latter weeks, while gently stretching the duration.

Your body has made incredible adaptations in the last few weeks........look where you have come from. Although the step up in duration each week is relatively small, the mental challenge of keeping your body moving for much longer than you could imagine just a few weeks ago, is your main concern.

Any distraction from your physical efforts will be beneficial to get through these weeks. I like to make a commentary on my surroundings, the weather, the light.......anything outside myself.

You will no doubt find your own techniques.

Fabulous job. None of the runs are meant to be easy, but they are all achievable. Keep jogging on :)

Way to go! That run is a huge mental hurdle. The sense of accomplishment after completing it is so good.
