Just intrigued on how much weight people have lost from starting the couch to 5k and beyond that if you have managed to go further than 5k.

Hi there

I didn't start to lose weight until week 3 which is when I really felt my metabolism rise. I also added in a 5km long walk on my rest days and this seems to have really helped burn fat fast. Losing approximately 1kg a week without following a regime of any sort but eating relatively good choices each day including all food groups - I have given up booze though and that might be making a difference....

You will not lose a significant amount of weight from running 5k 3 times a week without changing your diet. A 5k jog will burn about 230 calories, (of which 80 or so will be your basal rate which you would be burning anyway, so probably 150 extra calories. 3 times a week that would come to 450 calories. Which is good, it all helps, but if you are seriously trying to lose bodyfat then a 500 calorie/day deficit in intake is more what you should be looking at. You can't out train bad diet

When I started ( 4 years ago) I combined it with MFP and lost 1.5 stone. I went from a size 14 to 12. Now I am a tad heavier but a size 10/12 and that is due to my bodyshape changing and getting muscles ( which I think is far better and healther than weight loss alone).

Not many get to five k in 9 weeks, not that it matters.

Folks can lose weight, but again not much in 9 weeks, and not at all if they eat more while doing the programme 😃

if you keep running beyond the programme you can lose weight providing you eat and drink sensibly. Once you start getting fitter chances are you want to eat better

Lots of peeps keep going once they graduate from the programme. We have threads here for 10kers and one for half marathon and marathoners, plus those seeking ultra (there are a few of those 💪) , all of whom started off using C25k programme

Personally i have lost a further stone since completing the programme and having kept running 🏃‍♀️

I completed the programme in 9 months not 9 weeks I have found that I only started to loose weight when I was running over 20 minutes 3 times per week, and not as much as I had hoped, but I love running and te enefits it gives me .

I think that’s the thing really, the benefits of running are many but weight loss is low down on the list unless you take great care with a colourful, healthy diet and little alcohol.

Personally I think the biggest boost most people get from running is improved mental health (once the gremlins are squashed) 😜 which is wonderful bearing in mind the National concern re mental health. I can see why GP’s are prescribing exercise more these days.
