Did my first run last night (waited for darkness). I've never run before so I was a little self conscious to begin with but was grinning like a Cheshire cat by the time the session ended 😁

Well done and welcome!! Don’t be self conscious honest nobody even takes any notice. Well I say that but when I was out on Sunday a lovely chap sped past me and clapped me on and said well done....every runner has been where you/we are now, we have to start somewhere and you have just done the hardest one...you got out the door so 👍🏻

I wanted to hide away when I started too

But now (W6R1 today) I run along a main road for most of the time - just focus on yourself - after all that's what most people do most of the time!

You'll be surprised at how friendly the people you come across are - dog walkers smile and nod, drivers give way at junctions - often with a knowing smile

In 6 weeks I haven't met any negativity so just choose a route and GO FOR IT!

I would have done exactly the same in week 1 if I didn't live in the middle of nowhere! Having said that I avoided roads and stuff for a while but now I just don't care.... once you get going you notice other people doing similar stuff when you're driving around to work etc so it encourages you to not worry what you look like or how red or wheezy you might be! Glad you enjoyed!

Well done! Like you, I was worried about being seen, but I am starting Wk3 tonight, and have got to the point where I don't care about other people seeing me! I'm proud of my efforts to change my fitness and I had never run before doing this programme! Let us know how you get on with each run, it's great hearing everyone's experiences and progress! X

Welcome to the club this is a great programme. I am on week 7 and like you never ran before. I decided to ignore everyone else and do this for me. Yes I felt self conscious but now I’m running for 25 minutes I feel proud. Stick at it and take it slow and steady and in a few weeks hopefully you will feel the same 👍

I am sorry, but there is absolutely no hope for you at all!!!!

Grinning after W1R1 means you obviously have a highly addictive nature. Prepare for your life to change forever...........junkie in the making.

Keep running, keep smiling.

So another convert arrives...you're very welcome to the place where running in bright fluoro colours is positively encouraged, where sharing the good, bad and ugly runs is also welcomed and grinning is definitely wanted... congrats on doing your first one...
