You’ve just done the hardest run you will ever do.....the first one.

Just don’t go sprinting off. Keep it nice and slow. And then slow down a bit more.

Nice and steady wins the day.

Oh...and pop in here on a regular basis so we can all see how you are getting on.

We are an eclectic bunch but we are all friendly and have all been where you are.

Enjoy your journey.

Finding time after work and running in the dark Tuesday , any advise ? Have you been running long ?

in reply to Vonhorn

Head torch?

Nope, started in May so this is my first winter! Loving it though.

I live in a small village so my options are run on massive fast moving A road (don't want to!) or run on small unlit country lanes. I do the latter and run dressed as a Christmas tree with fluorescent jacket, head torch, chest and back lights plus fluorescent strips round wrists and ankles. It seems I can be seen as cars give me space and slow down so i think i'm ok...

I had the option to run at 5am (still dark) or run at 8pm after work so have chosen the latter as I'm not a massive morning person... but if you have showers at work, have you thought about running in your lunch hour?

I’m not a morning person either , so evenings it will have to be, I like being out doors so will invest in some fluorescent gear πŸ˜„ thanks for the advise

My daughter just asked me to join gym and run on treadmill do you ever use a treadmill?

No cos i am a cheapskate and won't pay gym fees!!

Picked up my gear on amazon for v.little money and all seems fine with it. Enjoy your journey!

i nearly always go in the dark, mostly at first because i was so self conscious of looking like a stampeding rhino, now just because i'm so sodding busy i dont get time til later anyway. living in oz its coming into summer so it'll be better once the sun goes down anyway. i quite like running in the dark as long as theres streetlights its ok. if you have dim patches you can get one of those head torches.

Welcome to you :)

Lots of new starters here today... Lovely! You will be fine and are about to start a journey that has the potential to change your life. Run slow, take rest days, keep popping in here for support and advice. I am sure that posting here made the difference to me. Makes you accountable... :)

Welcome and congratulations on your first run - the first of many πŸ˜€. I don't know where you run but as long as you have lights and fluorescent gear so you can be seen you should be Ok. Lidl, Aldi, supermarkets amongst others often have affordable and good gear.

If you do decide to go the gym and treadmill route that is perfectly fine. You could mix it up by running out of doors at the weekend to keep it mixed and get you some fresh air. Just to mention treadmill and outdoor running are very different - one isn't better than the other unless you think it is, they're just different. Best wishes for your new obsession.

Thank you for your advise , I never thought about treadmill and out door running as being different , I will keep it in mind and let you know how I get on.

Iv agreed to go with my daughter to the gym to encourage her to go aswell , my eldest daughter is getting married June 2018 so we all have a goal to reach (trying to lose some weight) as well as trying to improve our health and fitness πŸ‘°

Thank you 😊
