Time for new trainers!

Hi all, noob here,

So, week 1 run 2 completed tonight and am loving it already (not ran since high school 30 years ago!).

Anyway, what are the best trainers for running? I have old battered things and I feel every step. I don't want to break the bank.

Thanks in advance.

DrB.

The best trainers are the most comfortable ones for your running style, which needs to be assessed by a gait analysis at a specialist running shop.

Take your old shoes with you and be prepared to run on a treadmill for a few minutes

The wrong shoes may cause you permanent damage. Getting the right ones for you is the most important thing you can do at the start of your running career

My shoes are brilliant, but may be totally inappropriate for you.

What he says!

I was in a running shop yesterday as I am just about to finish 9 weeks so thought I would treat myself as it looks like I am hooked and will keep going.

Really nice chap in the shop said there is no ‘best’. If there was that would be all they would stock.

I showed him the shoes I had been running in when I started and he said they were a ‘light’ shoe. He asked if I had had problems and when I said no he said I should stick with that type of shoe and as they were all of a ‘standard’ then it was down to ‘what felt comfy’

Mmmm not sure about this. Did he do a gait analysis? If he did and said you had a neutral gait that is a different thing. Then I would assume he showed you the neutral support shoes to choose from?

The more you run the more important it is to have the correct shoe. I over pronate, so need a support shoe.

Thanks all for your advice. Wise words re: injury right at the start. I'll do as suggested.
