I did it! I ran for eight minutes! My magic trick to pace myself: no more listening to music, it makes me too over-enthusiastic. I’m listening to podcasts now which keeps me slow and steady.

YOU DIDN'T!!!!!

You ran for sixteen minutes, with a five minute walk...........that is twenty one minutes!!!!

Bear that in mind when you do the next run.

Well done. Do whatever you have to to stop thinking about time.

You are doing great!

Keep running, keep smiling.

Good luck! A friend recommended it to me, and she just completed a half marathon!

Pacing yourself is the key. Speed can be worked on later. Well done for your 16 mins of running!

Thank you! That’s encouraging. Is there a similar programme post-graduation for building up speed?

There is a specific speed podcast nhs.uk/Livewell/c25k/Pages/... but I have not tried it myself.

However, there many plans out there, but all have one thing in common - regular running.

My times improved just by running three times a week.

The best thing you can do its keep doing what you are doing.

Great work! Doing the time is key. The self belief and determination you develop from achieving that element will lead to faster pace and longer distances, that's for the future, enjoy the now!!

Good luck :0)

Thank you! You’re so right about the determination. I always knew I was healthy enough to build up my fitness - but actually sticking to it is a big achievement for me!

Thank you!

I listen to books. I like to feel I am improving my mind as well as my body. :) As runs get longer, it can get a bit boring but an audio book will help as the miles go by. Good luck :)

Thank you! That’s really useful and motivating to know. I was listening to a comedy podcast and it helped lift my mood no end!
