Just got back home from this run which seemed much harder than the same run on Wednesday and I was certainly slower as I track how far I run in the 25 minutes. Not sure if it was because I was running in the afternoon, (I usually try to do my runs early in the day) or because I had done a pretty intense step class at the gym this morning. I really had to force myself to keep going and at the end I didn't really feel a sense of achievement, just relief that it was over. I am now dreading the final W7 run in case it is harder still.

W7R2 - the hardest one so far, Feeling downhearted
It sounds like a big ask of your body to do a step class followed by a run on the same day. Step must be pretty close to running in terms of body zones being worked.
Do take care that you are not over doing it and don't be too hard on yourself for being exhausted by the end of your run.
Maybe you need to find a non-impact exercise for your alternative to running. Experts will be along with more specific recommendations, I am sure.
Every run for me is different, sometimes I feel I can run forever, other times I feel lie I can't run past 3km! This all depends on what you ate the past couple of days, how much sleep you have gotten the night before, and the weather conditions!
I know how you feel but finishing is an achievement- more so when you really aren't enjoying it or feeling like it. I think the step class will definitely have had an impact (excuse the pun!) and like you I find morning runs much easier- my body feels lighter earlier! I bet the next one is fine and you really enjoy it.
I cannot imagine how I would even finish if I had done a step class as well the same day. Don't beat yourself up, you did it, be proud of yourself and just take each run as it comes. My last was a nightmare (also week 7) and I'm having to take a couple of extra rest days before I attempt the next. Although it's a 9 week course we don't have to finish in 9 weeks and look how far you have come already. Have a lovely hot soak in a bubbly bath, treat yourself to something nice for dinner and forget about it. Good luck for the next run x
Take two days off -- I found week 7, where you start the long runs, to tire me out more. Especially with a step class, gad. Yes, just rest a bit extra please. Run 3 will be good.
Change of routine maybe... and just one of those runs
Just slow down... relax into those runs... let your legs begin to carry you on the longer running time... maybe try to get back to your early running time too
PS
A step session may not have been the best idea for the same day..non impact exercises for strength and stamina on rest days, though..they are essential!
We all have runs that are not as good as others. As a pain in the neck optimist, I refuse to call them bad runs. They are all learning experiences, so take the positives, learn from the negatives and dispel any downheartedness.
You pushed through and finished when it was tough. Well done.
What you have to do is work out why it was tough........change of time of day...possibly...........step class a few hours before ................highly likely. You might have been able to do the step class and run in the early weeks, but things are ramping up now and you need to give your body a chance to recover.
Be confident that you will be fine on your next run, if you are well hydrated and fuelled and well rested.
Good luck.
