Just in from completing my week two, third run. Am knackered! How on earth do I get better at this? Does the breathing just eventually click into place? Will be going out again on Thursday and hoping week 3 comes more easily than I think it will...

Try to take it easy, slow it down, if I remember Laura on the podcast does mention something about your breathing, and how to do it correctly or give you tips. Good luck stick with it and it will become easier .

Thanks, yeah she says to breathe 1-2-3-4 as you left foot strikes the ground, but I usually need to breathe somewhere inbetween 2&3! I've tried doing 1-2-3,1-2-3 but, acht, I dunno. I need to not get disheartened - 'tis is usually about where I give up so I really want to work my way through it this time!!

I too struggled with my breathing in the early weeks, I watched a few videos and read up on some stuff regarding managing my breathing and although I did have difficulty with the first 5 minute runs I gradually found I was getting on top of it as my stamina levels increased and my recovery periods become shorter. Taking good breaths in the 5 minute warm up walks helps, best of luck with week 3.

Very well done! Well, it just happens! You will get better if you just keep going :) . Breathing was an issue for me - getting enough air in my lungs - and I was really conscious of it. And the more I thought about it, the worse it got, of course. I always breathe through my mouth no question of through my nose, I'd keel over! Until recently, when sometimes I breathe through my nose without realising (but not often!), but this is weeks after graduating.

I suppose our body's adjusting to all this heavy breathing and it's working out how to do it, it's not had much practice before! Now it just gets on with it. Try and take your mind off it if you can, listen to a book/podcast, distract yourself and it will eventually sort itself out.

It never really gets that easy, but it never gets so bad that you can't really do it. Manageable I would say! But incredibly rewarding & pleasing for sure. Good luck!

It is very simple, honestly. If you can't breathe comfortably, then you are running too fast for you current fitness level.

Slow down.

As for the advice given on the C25K media regarding breathing patterns....... well most of us, me included, could not do it. I considered giving up there and then, but having already realised that panting meant too fast, I settled for doing it my own way.

Years later I realised that my evolved breathing pattern was not dissimilar to that advocated, so I got there in the end.

You have done six runs. You are already getting better. Next week is probably where you will realise that your recovery times have improved hugely. It will be testing all the way through, but run by run you are making progress and being prepared for the next one.

You are doing great, but slowing down might make it more enjoyable.

Just breathe... like you do, all day and every day... and slow down... right down... and then slow down more :)
