Post holiday post! The pain of getting back to it.

Hello :)

The paths on my weeks holiday were a bit too 'undulating', muddy and treacherous for me to feel confident running on them. That's Scottland for you. Not to say i didn't keep active. I climbed a MOUNTAIN :D

First run back and I went really slow and ran my whole usual 3.5k route in 30 minutes (normally 26 mins). For the first time I experienced pain in my calves and ankles.

Second run in and got the same thing.

Anyone else get this after a week break or is it time to invest in some shiny new shoes and compression socks?

Much love x

Well done.

A break from running normally means everything is in fine fettle on return, although lots of walking and climbing may have had their toll.

If your shoes are not proper running shoes or are old, then at this stage of the game it really is worth investing in some decent footwear. A gait analysis carried out at a specialist running shop will show you what your running style is and what sort of shoes are appropriate for you. I thought it was a sales gimmick until I had it done and was amazed at the effect of correctly fitted shoes.

It may make all the difference as you run further.

Thank you :) I had a gait analysis done and got my shoes when I intended to start running about 6 years ago but never really started. My shoes got lots of use though for working out and walking because they gave the best support.

They are getting old now and looking very worn down. Perhaps I aught to invest :P
