Taking so much longer than it should.....

Hello everyone! I'm on week 4 run 1 .... and I've been stuck there for a fortnight. Today was the first time I've been out and really thought I could have carried on, so next time I'll move up to week 4 run 2. Does anyone else repeat runs like this until they feel comfortable to move on? I'm still doing 3 or 4 runs a week so that's something.... Right??

I would say keep moving when you're ready and have faith in the program, but there's no hard and fast (or slow!) rules. The wisdom is go slower if you're struggling. Also, make sure there's always at least one rest day between runs!

What do you mean, stuck? What's happening?

Stuck as in.... I'm nearly killing myself on the run and dont feel ready to move up to the next run.

OK, I assume you mean you are out of breath -- like so you have almost to stop rather than keep walking in the walk periods, and aren't really recovered by the next run?. I think it is very likely that you are going too fast -- perhaps *running* rather than *jogging*. My jog is only very slightly faster than a fast walk.

If that's the case, slow down. If you are already going slow, really slow, then by all means repeat.

I can see why you are repeating until you are confident you are able to move on, but if you manage a run (no matter how bad) you can just move on and then just repeat any runs that you didn't quite finish (practicing). Then when you graduate you can continue to repeat and build up your stamina.

Having said that, this is your personal programme and yes getting in the habit of being out 3 times a week is the best way to go forward.

Slow down... right down and slow down enough to feel you are not killing yourself!

If you do that and keep it slow and steady, you will be ready to move on... :)

Hi Morenyluck,

I repeat weeks till I feel I'm able to do the step up to the next week. So far I'm doing each week twice. It suits me, and I'm just glad that I'm still on the programme!

It's going to take me double the time, but I haven't given up.

Good luck and keep going 😺
