Definitely a Practice....

This morning saw my second attempt at W6R2. The first one, last week, I thought I'd just about got away with it not being a practice - I'd slowed to my walking pace about 20 seconds before the end of my second 10 minute run. However, as I'd found it really tricky, I decided to consolidate before moving on to R3.

The conditions this morning were good - cool, but not too cold that my running vest was insufficient (I get so hot when exercising, don't know what I'm going to do as we move towards autumn and winter and I'll have to layer up, but that's a different post...), bright but not too sunny that I had to squint under my running cap, a new route, but one that I'd checked out beforehand and felt confident that it was within my capabilities. I switched to the podcast, as I haven't yet got a belt to hold my phone, so my tiny clip-on iPod shuffle is better to run with at this stage. Happy to say "hello" to Laura again - long time, no see - and set off on my warm up walk, full of positivity.

I managed the first 10 minute run, but sure was in need of the breath-catching walk. It had been slow, but I'd run the whole time. Setting off again, my calf muscles felt sooooo heavy, and even at shuffle pace, it was a challenge too far today. I managed 5 mins, then did on/off walk/shuffle for the last 5 mins.

I'm sure a big part of my challenge is that these last two runs have been outside and that's been a big change for me, but ultimately that's where I want to be.

Have no fear, I will not give up! I'm going to keep plodding away until I nail this sucker!!! πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ‘πŸ»

You're right its a feisty little week this one, and moving outside is a big challenge and with only 2 outsider runs under your belt its hard to workout what is a natural pace on a new terrain. but your committed and gutsy so we know you will nail it

Thank you! I don't know where this determination has come from, but I sure ain't going to let this beat me. I can see running in my future...😁

I think you need to slow your pace down a little (sustainable pace), running outside as against on a treadmill is quite different.

So next time out run nice and slow and then slow it down a bit more (sustainable pace), you need to be running at a pace that you can maintain for the whole of the run, so if you're having to stop and walk you're running to fast.

Slow and steady is the way

Advice given from experience as I was having to do the same but read a post regarding sustainable pace and guess what, bingo it's never been a problem ever since

Thank you. I really honestly am running super-slowly, don't think there is a slower setting, but I'm going to keep trying!

Indigogirl...the first 2 runs of week 6 have been two of the hardest for me...just when you think you've got the hard one over,W5R3, BAM there's W6!! It's a definite test of strength...but it's more psychological....why else would the stick some more walks in there otherwise??? You definitely can do it though...you know you can and so do we...keep at it...x

Getting used to the big wide world make take time.. but you will do it:)

Just keep it as you are doing, slow and steady and as each run makes you stronger, you will gain more and more confidence:)
