Tonight I completed couch to 5k, when I started WK1 Run1, I never thought I would do it but I have and I'm proud!!

Tonight I run for a full 5k and my time was 36 minutes, not fast but I did it and could have run longer, but didn't want to over do it.

It's official I'm a runner πŸƒ

Thanks Jododds, not sure what's a good speed, just wanted to run until I reached 5k

Have you really not gone any exercise for 15 years? You must feel brilliant and so proud of yourself.

Stan72 profile image
Stan72 in reply to Jododds

Until 9 weeks ago, I was a couch potato who had not exercised for 15 years, mainly due to football injuries, over the years, I've had 3 knee ops and 1 lower back op, so no real continuous exercise until I started 9 weeks ago, I still need to improve my core but yes I'm very proud!!!

Well done you! I didn't manage to graduate at 5k - could have run longer but like you, I didn't want to over do it just in case. (Probably because I still can't actually believe I'm doing it!).

However, my next challenge is to do just that!

Congratulations again - you're a runner now!!

Cheers fellow runner, certainly smiling and def will keep running, my aim/goal when I started 9 weeks ago was to run a 10k by Nov!

IannodaTruffe profile image
IannodaTruffeMentor in reply to Stan72

Plenty of time. Best to consolidate at 5k/30 minutes for a week or two and don't run hard every time. Then move on over to the Bridge to 10k forum.

Stan72 profile image
Stan72 in reply to IannodaTruffe

Yes that's the plan, plenty of 5k runs over next few weeks, slowly stepping up, slow and steady wins the race...

Well done Stan, great job... be very proud πŸ‘πŸ» Tomorrow will be (hopefully) my graduate day and I'm looking forward to it! Officially runners πŸ…. I've booked my first 5k fun run on October 1st which will give me the incentive to try and improve my times over the next 4 weeks. Good luck with future runs πŸ‘

Well done, belonger. Where's your grad badge? It'll hopefully be on proud display on your next post. πŸ…

Although Stan is AMAZING to live up to the name, C25K, I gained my badge under its alternative name, C230M (couch to 30 mins), and sounds like you may be the same? Trouble is, I've been a grad for 5 weeks but have only managed 4 runs in that time (don't ask), so am still at the disappointing 3.5k/30 min point. Coming back from my latest run yesterday, feeling a bit low and unmotivated (& exhausted), I gave myself a virtual kick-up-the-a**e and made a promise to myself to get back on track, get back the discipline I had to complete C230M and run 3 times a week again, even if it's after work/in the dark. Only then will I know if 3.5K/30m is my limit, or whether I can eventually get to 5k (my original goal). I wonder if others ever stick to 30mins and are happy with that? After all it's still brilliant that we get to that point, which I could never have done without the podcasts and Mr Smooth then Laura spurring me on. And 1.5 hours of running a week isn't to be sniffed at, either.

If you'll let me offer any advice at all it's don't do what I've done and slacken off. Try to keep the motivation and runs going and see where it leads you. Congrats again, πŸ‘¨β€πŸŽ“.

(Yours is the best photo on the forum, btw)
