After Graduation

Well I am in my 2nd week since graduating. Not been to my planned running club meets yet but have kept up doing 30 min runs every other day . First couple were done on my own but I am now using Jo again , I like to hear the half way bell and the bit of encouragement . One mistake I have made is to start watching my times too much . Today I did 5k in 29.03 which really for me is too fast and I didn't enjoy it too much . Counter that with my Sunday slow and steady run that genuinely was a pleasure , the sort of run that I am likely to keep doing . Bought myself some proper running shorts and it's like running with aircon , such a difference lol. Thus program has really impacted my life. I'm finding my physical job easier , I am thrilled that I can excersise again when I thought I was on the scrap heap and my Mrs is thrilled with my slimmer look . Happy times

This is such a nice post to read and inspires us 'under grads' to keep going! I too have a tendency to get a bit fixated on statistics and going faster / longer etc, you have reminded me to just enjoy the run (which sounds so obvious now I say it!) thank you!

Sounds lovely. All of it. Happy wife, slimmer you, aircon shorts, slow enjoyable runs, ability to run sub 30 5k... you've got it all. πŸŽ‰

What's not to like?

Most new runners spend too much time running too fast, so great that you have noticed that it is not the most enjoyable or effective way to run.

Keep running, keep smiling.

Happy time indeed.. and that is what the running should be about... I love my Sunday Runs.... they are my, let's see where I get to runs... slower and relaxed... taking everything in and really embracing the feeling.

It can be great to have a burst of speed...( I know that I am the biggest advocate of slow and steady, but I like a fast few minutes too)... but sometimes, it is a good idea to leave all the tech stuff at home.. and just head out... runs for joy... because you can:)

Keep it up... you are doing wonderfully... and your wife clearly approves :)

Not what you're looking for?
