Mad dogs etc.

Against many odds I did just about manage W8 R1.

I haven't run for 10 days, I was going to yesterday but it was too hot. This morning I looked at the weather forecast and it said it would be even hotter (the cooler predicted hour vanished when the forecast was refreshed at 10am). So I thought, as it is getting hotter throughout the day, only one thing for it go early. So I ended up running at midday.

The first 5 minutes were agony but then the leg muscles did loosen a bit. Nearly tripped twice, hit 4 walls. A swan skidded across the water and I really wanted to join it.

I had applied my highly water resistant sun screen and discovered it is not sweat resistant and stings when it runs into your eyes.

I decided to alter my route to stay in the shade. This meant today I accidentally did my first hill!, well most of it. I nearly stopped but didn't, although slower than a snail and at times there was no forward element to the run lol. I didn't make the top but turned and ran down the hill but later I was going back up a hill and this time one that I have previously not managed to walk up without stopping, so turned again. I ended up running circles round a dip. This is the first run that I have actually been out of breath, so probably good for me.

Due to the new route, the walk ended up being 10mins too.

I know now I wont run all of the Race for Life in 4 weeks time (it includes "that" hill, or a worse one if the circuit is the other direction) but I will finish this programme and run at least half of the Race for Life, probably more. That will still be amazing progress for me:)

Well done 🙂 Not ideal conditions today. Scorching and windy 🙄

Still, it's done! ✔️🏃‍♀️👍

Windy? Wished it had been, no breeze at all :(

But yes done. Legs aching going upstairs - likely well stiff tomorrow.

You toughed it out though, well done. Soak the pins and hope for cooler weather next time out...

Hi there! Was wondering how you're getting on. I've only managed 2 short runs over the last couple of weeks as I've been on hols in France. It's been too hot for me & even going out first thing I ran like a very sweaty snail! I'm sure you'll feel back on track now the weather's set to be cooler - just keep going & keep an 'I can' mantra in your head - not long to go now!

Ty. The heat really gets to me too. Today is hot again (26 degrees & wind 4mph) so I plan to swim and tomorrow is meant to be cooler (11 - 15 degrees) with more wind (11mph), so will run again. I will have to think about the hills but yes the end is nigh!
