So I'm over 50 overweight and often over excited πŸ™ˆ.... I read in total awe the people that run 5k in 30 mins and under but ... it's takes time I've read this over and over again .. so this morning with the sun in the sky scruffy dog and myself plodding along the paths of the local park run ... awesome I knocked over a whopping 4 mins from my previous 5k tracked run two weeks ago ... so gentle does it but improvement can happen ... I'm determined to get there πŸƒπŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

4 Minutes off your previous PB. That is amazing! I was pleased with 1 minute off so am totally in awe of you.

30 minutes - nah... that's for young fit people - not me.

If you were determined, were willing to work hard for it, I bet you could do it. C25K teaches us that our bodies are capable of doing things way in excess of our self imposed limits.

Yeay... enjoying the journey is what it is all about:)

Just remember some of us are build for comfort not for speed, there more of us to cuddle and we don't want to loose that. You'll never see a Labrador at the greyhound track. Slow and steady is just fine. πŸ‘

lol I'm trying to loose some of that extra poundage makes it easier to plod on !! In my head I'm the gazelle with wee scruffy as my greyhound whereas we are more like the carthorse and the scruff lol πŸƒπŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

Some of us were just never meant to be skinny, there are some very fit big people, look at those rugby lads for instance.

Hi Bernadette, Welcome, I'm also quite new to the site and to running, just started on the C25K program and finished week 4, I'm 64 overweight and never run before but giving it a go, only a geriatric shuffle. I've been a bit of a fat chap for years so have lots of jokes for laughing it off although this is probably not the place to make light of it. They are great bunch and are really supportive so you're in good company. I hope we catch up again and that you enjoy the site. x

Targets are great for motivation, but they do need to be realistic if you are not to get disillusioned. Why not set some intermediate targets just to keep up the buzz of achievement, and work your way slowly to that sub 30 5k.

You probably won't knock four minutes off every week. Quite naturally, the more you run the less frequently the PBs arrive, as you get nearer to your peak performance.

Totally agree and that was using the Fitbit tracker rather than just the distance log ... was over two weeks and two different locations ... I'm far from cracking that kind of time off lol I'm just happy being out there !!! πŸƒπŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

Welcome, Bernadette. I am glad you find this an inspirational site.......that is our aim. The C25K plan is brilliant but it is the support of this forum that makes all the difference.

There is a walking for health website walkingforhealth.org.uk which may be helpful for you at the moment. The C25K plan teaches people that although we are all limited by our own physicality, we are often held back by our brains.

Belief is the key.

What an achievement well done.... first thing to do is cover the distance time will

Improve as you have shown over time (cheesy I know but true!) .... good luck with your onward running journey!

It's great that you're so determined, but don't get put off if you don't always knock time of your PB. Sometimes it's just good to run and enjoy the great outdoors. πŸ˜€
