Looking forward to today's run but sneaked a look at Run 3 now that seems totally unrealistic l am just wondering if it's achievable I only jog at my best the hare and tortoise spring to mind 20 minutes is a big jump from 8 min? Are people running at this stage therefore able to run and jog when it becomes harder?

Try a different mind set. It wasn't 8 minutes that you ran, it was 16. And you walked 5 minutes in the middle. Next time you will run that middle bit and it will only be 4 minutes. You'll run slowly and steadily and you will complete the 20 minutes. Really you will. Because you have done all the work for it. Trust the plan. Believe in yourself.
I did W5 R2 and didn't look ahead to R3, which in hindsight was the best thing for me. It felt like a huuuuuuuuge jump once I realised what R3 had in store for me and it felt disproportionate to how the programme had built up my stamina until now.
I'd say go for it and see how you get on. If you feel you're struggling then slow down and carry on for as much as you can. Slow down more after that if you need to. You can only do what you can do but I promise you'll get there.
It is all about mindset. I was running and started thinking i will need to stop soon so I asked myself ....is my breathing ok? Yes it's fine. Are my legs ok? Yes they're fine. So why do I need to stop? I don't!! But I do have to tell my mind that occasionally to stop me thinking that I need to stop when actually I don't. Get some good music or podcast going and get lost in it. Don't go too fast.... slow and steady and you WILL do this. Enjoy the feeling at the end! 😃
I think a lot of us have looked forward to the next run and the gremlins have laughed there manic laughter BUT you CAN do it, everything you've done so far is preparing you for the next run.
As others have said slow and steady and you'll surprise yourself and if it starts getting hard change down a gear to snails pace minus 1
Sheps is right - there is only 4 more minutes running than in run 2. Trust in the pogramme - so many fear this run and then go out and do it - you can too! Also, don't differentiate between running and jogging - it's all running, just different pacing! Take your runs slowly and steadily because this programme is all about getting you moving for an increasing amount of time - building up that stamina. Pace and speed will increase naturally later, or you can focus on it more once you have graduated and your running legs are stronger. Good luck!
Hey heartless, this is the mixing it up week, and I promise you other than Mo Farah obviously, pretty much every one of us gulped when we saw it come up. 20 minutes not a hope in hell, what is my coach thinking of. All those thoughts and more. And you know what in my 7 weeks on here I haven't seen one post of W5 R3, when someone has said they didn't manage it. In fact all of the posts I've seen have been of people screaming with joy at their achievement.
It honestly is more mental than physical, we all believe you can do it and you will. Channel your inner old floss and go slow, slow, slow, slower and you'll do it.
Good luck and watch out for that grin when completed, your jaw will ache for hours!
Don't know if you are doing the app or the podcasts. I did the podcasts and Laura is very clear that you are aiming for a light jog all the way through to the end of week 9.
We all feel the same about that run and pretty much everyone manages it first time. As long as you have completed the rest of the runs you will be fine.
Well I'm a shuffler and I dreaded that run. Take it really slow and steady and you'll do it. I found it hard mentally doing without a walk in between but I got over that and so will you.
Thank you everyone for your support I have just completed Run 2 Week 5 and it was nowhere near as bad as I thought - I can do this I will do this is my chant when Jo tells me I am only halfway I never believed myself that I could run for 8 minutes but I did- well done to everyone this group is amazing without encouragement I could not do this
It is all in the mindset. You can do it because of the work you have put in. You don't believe it yet, because this is new territory and you haven't done it before.
On the subject of mindset it helps to just remember that you are not going from 8 mins running to 20. You are going from 16 mins running -with 5 mins constant walking between, so 21 minutes in all. You now are going to consolidate that into one run with no break. Still a step-up, but not the jump you fear. You've got this!
