PROBLEMS WITH TEACLE

Hi all

Not posted before, I am now going into W7R1 and feel that I am running through treacle. I love running/jogging but question if I will ever pick up speed! When Michael J recommends not going too fast or, slowing the pace if tired, I want to ask him how? I'll be at a standstill!

Have a great day all

You say you are loving it. That's all that matters. Don't start pushing yourself and stopping it being fun. Slow is good. Well done and keep loving it.

That feeling is fairly normal at this stage. It takes about a year to build up proper running legs so it's no wonder our legs feel heavy at the beginning!

The good news is that with every run you are getting stronger. Just keep going and don't worry about the speed thing. Slow maketh the runner. You're doing brilliantly 🙂

Leaden legs, concrete feet. running through treacle.. we have them all on here:)

So... slow as you like...( no such thing as too slow )..but, lightly, gently, kiss the ground with those feet... relax and look around:)

Go with the run and try not to overthink it, I sometimes feel that we concentrate so hard on the run that we almost forget to just to enjoy it:)

You are doing wonderfully and well on the way to the podium... as her majesty says, each run makes you stronger:)

To be honest it took me ages to find different speeds in my running, I was very late to the party with that one. I had even completed a half marathon before I trained my body to run at different speeds. We are all different and some, like me it takes your body time to adjust, after graduation there is time to perfect all these things and the great thing is however long it takes you are still running so it is a win win situation, just carry on enjoying your runs because they are the best ones no matter what the pace.

Ah another treacle runner - I'm not on my own. Just realise that everyone is at a different level (age/fitness) so don't compare yourself to anyone else. Oh and thanks Irishprincess for that info on it taking a year to build up proper running legs. I don't feel so bad now. :)

I'm with bareliz on this one and Irishprincess - a year! Thank you for making me realise this is a long game... Mr Smooth suggests things, you don't have to take his suggestions if you can't change the pace then don't. Sometimes interrupting your rhythm is the worst thing you can do.

Slowing down, i actually tried a tiptoe run - I wouldn't recommend it as a method at all, but one thing it did do was forcibly change my tempo and so then I could slow down to double treacle slowness. I find it hard to speed up and slow down, although chanting go slow, go faster or whatever I need does help me a bit.

You are so close to graduation and then as in life, your real education begins. You'll probably learn more in your weeks after graduation then you did prior.

Hi - I'm behind you, just finished W5, but I have the same thing. When the podcast says slow down if you're feeling tired I just think that's not possible without walking! I'm just assuming (hoping) that once I've built up a bit of stamina I can start worrying about pace. Good luck!
