Morning fuel

I began running in the late evening over the last few weeks because I have more energy. I used to run at 6:00 am before my husband went to work (we have young kids I obviously cannot leave alone). I have to do an early run tomorrow. What should I eat or drink before I go to help me have more energy and do my 22 minute (yikes) run?

I run before hubby goes to work, I can't face food before 8am so I have a glass of water and as soon as I get back a protein shake 👍🏻

Dried fruit is good if you like it. You don't need very much but it will give a bit of an energy boost. Coffee or tea are fine to drink but if you don't have time or don't drink it just stick to water.

I don't eat before my morning runs, most I have is a cup of two of tea - and have been doing this for (almost) the last 5 years. As long as you are well hydrated, which comes from continual drinking all the time, and not just before a run you should be ok. However, if you really really need to eat 1/2 a banana, slice of toast and peanut butter or jam should do you but you will need to let it "go down" before you run. Have a nice, but not huge, breakfast when you get back, give you something to look forward to 😀

I can't go out without eating anything but sometimes need to run pretty much as soon as I get up. I have a couple of plain biscuits and a glass of water and that's small enough not to be a problem but stops me going wobbly.

My routine is a cuppa and two light digestives about 45 mins before I run.. I am well hydrated anyway, so just a sip of water, before I leave the house, is my routine.. :)

As the runs get longer, you may find you feel you need something... but really, it is up to you..many folk eat a banana? Just nothing heavy or sloshy aroundy:)

I also run at 6am before hubby goes to work. I use his phone for B2 10K app so I need to be back before 7! I don't eat anything and feel ok with that. I cover 5.5 miles with no ill effects. When I get back I can't usually face food for 30-45 minutes, but yesterday I needed the porridge & fruit as soon as I got back! Everyone is different, but hydration is something you definitely need to keep up.

I find running after I've eaten makes me feel sick, so I always run in the morning. I drink one actimel before I go and I find that is just enough. (Usually do 4k, but once did 8k and it was still enough)
